Currently, players may choose for their characters to be from the kingdom of Rivana. Characters may be also from Sanctum if they are a member of the Faith or one of the Militant Order. But please note that Sanctum is not an area that is current built in game so characters from Sanctum should have reason to be in Rivana. Please keep that in mind when coming up with your concept!
There is an entire world to populate, and many rolls to fulfill. Houses need both lords and ladies, but they also need knights, men at arms, advisers, healers, priests, and commoners. There is a rising merchant class throughout the Edge, and they need players in just about every role!
Please see Character Generation for some important information to consider while devising your concept and setting up your character.
Players may choose to apply for an Advanced or Elite Character once they have met all the requirements listed on the page.
- Nobles: Inheritors of a ruling bloodline, responsible for the management and protection of their lands.
- Knights: Followers of a warrior tradition, be they scions of noble houses or freelance hedge knights.
- Commoners: The citizenry of the world, from clergy to criminals, soldiers to artists, and merchants to beggars.
- Syndicate: The organized criminal element of the Edge.
Wanted/Open Concepts
Here players and staff can list what concepts are wanted or needed. This page is updated frequently, so yes, if it's on here, chances are it's valid, and if it's not, we'll certainly let you know when you try to app it!
It is important to note that the lists of characters on each of the pages are not a comprehensive list of those that are wanted or open for application, they are simply those characters that a wiki page has already been created for. And those characters that are listed with a wiki page already may be previously played, simply NPCed or they might simply have been given a wiki page by staff or another player to store some basic information.
Apps are currently wanted and being accepted for these Houses :

Wanted Characters with Wiki Pages Already:
Commoners are allowed, but not as a first character. Also we want to ensure that people are picking a concept that will allow for ample roleplaying opportunities and is able to interact with the mostly-noble playerbase.
As such, commoner concepts must be approved through staff prior to application. This is not because we want to spoil your fun, but rather that it has been staff’s experience that some commoner concepts make it hard to find roleplay. A Lords and Ladies game focuses on nobility, and by nature, commoners have a difficult time interacting with them. The suggestions we have for approvable concepts are concepts that have inherent ability to interact with nobility without too much difficulty.
Suggested Commoner Concepts
Recognized bastards to noble families
Priests and higher ranker clergy members
Master bards
Courtesans
Hedge knights and common members of the paladin and templar orders
High ranking members of household staff (like a master steward, for example.)
Pacittan Council Members and their immediate families
High ranking Syndicate members
In addition, commoners cannot be apped for your first character and should not be your only PC. For people wanting to pick up a commoner alt we recommend that they play a noble for one month prior to apping as it will give them a better understanding of the theme and current plots and how a commoner character might be able to fit in and find roleplay.
Any concepts where the concept revolves around a single PC will not be approved. That keeps a PC from being locked down if their noble is unavailable or drops. (So personal maids/body servants, etc., are not allowed, and will be assumed to be an NPC.) Exceptions are only made for PC noble squires squiring to a PC knight, but ultimately a PC knight has the final say in if they want their squire to be appable.

Wanted Characters with Wiki Pages Already:
IMPORTANT NOTE: The information contained on this page supersedes that contained on other pages of the wiki. For instance, if a character is listed on their individual House page as being "available" or "appable" but that particular House is currently closed for new applications, then the character is not appable at this time. The only exception is if those characters are already on our +roster, in which case they may be claimed normally.
General: We welcome a great many concepts at Creation's Edge, but there are a few areas where certain types of characters simply don't fit into our theme, or otherwise cause problems for our game. These are "Closed" Concepts. Additionally, if we feel there are too many characters following a particular concept, we might temporarily close those concepts until the game population "spreads out" a little more. Variety is the spice of life and all. In such cases, they will be added on this page and notification will be made in-game via the bulletin boards.
There are also concepts that, while not outright banned, often need to be handled particularly carefully both ICly and OOCly. In short, characters with those concepts tend to be more heavily scrutinized and have a chance of being denied altogether. These are our "restricted" concepts.
This page is regularly reviewed by staff. While you can feel free to ask as to whether any given temporary closure is still valid, chances are if it's on here, it's still in effect.
Closed Concepts
Slaves: Slavery has never been institutionalized in Creation's Edge or even the Etharian Empire that once ruled it, and is officially illegal in all the nations of the Edge. While the raiders of Brodlund and the Pirate Isles practice limited forms of slavery (and certain Syndicate families take part in that trade), in general the practice is deep underground and vehemently stamped out when it is discovered. As such, player characters that have a background of being slaves and especially that are currently slaves are not permitted.
Roma, Gypsies, Tinkers, etc: While there are traveling bards, musical troupes, etc, thematically there is not an entire race of people that have been disposed of, were spurned and hated in the way of Roma/Gypises were/are in our world. This does not exist within Creation's Edge theme. So please to not app a 'gypsy' concept. They do not exist in our world and the application will be denied straight up.
Secret Heirs: 'Secret nobles', 'secret bastards', and kidnapped-as-a-child characters concepts are highly scrutinized if not likely to be rejected straight up, especially if their birth order or circumstances would make them the heir to their house. In fact, that last bit is outright banned. You can be a known but unrecognized bastard that's trying to get recognized; you can be an orphan (though see below); you can be all sorts of other concepts— but secret ducal or royal heirs/children who have been raised by pirates/the church/bandits/some nice sweet old lady that sells cookies is a) potentially theme and game-breaking; b) kind of a cheesy way to get around an elite character app; and c) obviously if we're having to post this, rather cliched and lame. You can find a way to make a fun character without being a secret Targaryen/secret warg, we promise. Yes, this also means you can't do this for lower-ranking houses either. If you want to be an heir…app an heir. If you show up out of the blue claiming to be the long lost trueborn son of Duke Whatshisname and heir to House Whathisname, chances are no one's going to believe you, and the siblings whose parentage and position are known without a doubt are likely to have you killed for your temerity.
Last Survivors: Characters that are the only remaining member of an entire Noble House are generally not permitted. We have a very specific few Noble houses already recorded as "wiped out" or "defunct" and do not permit new ones to be invented because it then requires readjustment across large swathes of our theme (particularly histories and family trees) to account for this previously-existing house. Characters that are the last surviving members of one particular branch of a Noble House may be permissible, see "Orphans" below. It may come to pass that certain defunct Houses may open for limited application in the future, but staff will notify the players when such is the case, as generally speaking it'll likely be that we're looking for a specific role to be filled.
The Frail Beauty: A childhood sickness being the catalyst for something in your life path is fine. But it should not be your defining trait, and it should be made clear that you've recovered to at least an average degree of health. Because in the end, it is not going to matter how pretty you are, when it comes to marriage prospects (for a noble), if everyone thinks you are going to die before you can give birth, or if you can't even produce a child, your value to your House is inherently low. And yes, despite the "maidens" bit above, this applies to male characters, too.
Restricted Concepts
Antagonistic Characters We do not outright ban characters that are pointedly designed to serve an antagonistic role towards other player characters, however such concepts are looked at closely, and such players must be familiar with our policies and strictly abide by them when pursuing their IC goals. This is a bit of a broad category, but if you were playing Dungeons and Dragons and your character's alignment was likely to come up as Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil…you may have a harder time getting approved, if you get approved at all. We welcome flawed characters and we don't have a problem with relatively amoral characters, either. We welcome IC rivalries or even enmity, but we don't really want many/any characters who are designed to "win" by climbing over the corpses (figurative or literal) of all the other characters in the game to get to the top of the hill. Such types are usually reserved for Staff NPC villains. Generally speaking, it is always best if your character holds loyalty towards something besides just themselves and their own advancement/conquest/enrichment/what-have-you, whether it's an organization such as a Noble House or Syndicate, or a Kingdom, or even a particular person (usually a high-ranking member of an organization you serve).
Orphans: Characters whose entire immediate family has been killed (even if the House they were part of remains viable via other branches) are looked at closely. The orphan concept is far more likely to be allowed for commoners than nobles. The main concern is that being an orphan robs other players of any opportunity to play someone directly related to you (which potentially limits your RP options in the long term and definitely does in the short term). Still, if you think you've got a twist on it that would be interesting for the game, or at the very least have some good RP hooks already built in (like PC members of a family you fostered with after whatever tragedy befell your family, for example), then a concept along these lines will have a better chance of making it through approval.
LGBT Characters: We do not restrict players from applying for/playing LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) characters, and in fact you don't even have to specifically note your character's sexual orientation in your application unless you feel it necessary, with one exception: If you are playing a childless head of house or heir, it should be noted if your character is homosexual, as this is the only instance in which homosexuality does cause significant problems for characters. Generally speaking, homosexuality and bisexuality do not carry the same stigma in our setting as they do at times in the real world (or in some settings similar to our own). However, in consideration for players who may identify as LGBT in real life, we ask that such depictions be handled carefully. Generally we heavily scrutinize broad stereotypes such as "camp" gays and "butch" lesbians, and seriously frown upon "depraved/predatory" homosexuals and bisexuals. Basically, if most or all of your knowledge and experience with LGBT characters comes from Manga or internet fanfiction, you may well want to think twice before trying to play such a character here.
Couviere:
Applications for Couviere are currently closed at this time.
Rivana:
Noble applications for Rivana are only being accepted for the Houses listed on the Rivana tab at this time, all other Houses in Rivana are closed for application. They may open at a later time.
Other:
Applications for Characters from Venderos, Etharian, Alhazred, Brodlund and Tiria are closed at this time. Characters may have ancestors from these places, up to and including one parent, but your background must account for why you are culturally part of the playable areas of the Edge. Additionally you may certainly use characters and elements from these places in your backgrounds (For instance, you could have fought against Tirian tribesmen in the North or survived a Brodlund raid as a child). As the game's population grows and the storyline permits, we may open other areas to player characters, but we have no timeframe on such a decision at present.
We have several characters who already exist in-setting on our +roster. The +roster generally represents some of the "most wanted" characters. To view the roster in-game, just type +roster.
Most characters on our roster have just a name, age, gender, and some basic information available. They are noted as not having completed chargen on the roster. For these characters (unless they are Elite), you can use the in-game +roster/claim <Name> command to get a password for these characters. After that, just follow the steps above, and make sure your background and stats are in keeping with the basic information that was already provided for the character.
You might also notice that some other characters are already completed…which is to say they have a full backstory and stats and are basically "done." In some cases these are characters that were previously played and in others they are staff-created PCs that often have specific ties to existing characters or houses. Additionally, some characters on the roster may be marked Elite. In these cases, you need to submit an email to moc.liamg|hsumegdesnoitaerc#moc.liamg|hsumegdesnoitaerc and answer the following questions:
1. What is it about this character that made you want to play them? What do you like most about them?
2. What do you like least about the character? If there was one thing you could change about this character, what would it be?
3. What is your favorite log or memoir that involves this character? (If the character has never been approved and played on-screen, just proceed to question 4).
4. What would your concept (as seen in +finger) for this character be? In other words, summarize your version of this character in a short paragraph/couple or three sentences.
5. If this character was previously approved - Do you wish to rewrite or revise this characters' background and/or concept? (If the character was not previously approved, you may omit this question).
If the staff has any further questions, they will reply via e-mail. If the answers are approved, they will inform you and you can then claim the character in-game.
