Province: Saltspan
Settlements: Jamestown is the center of the Barony's mining operations, administration and trade, a walled, rough and tumble town where the tang of salt is always in the air. However in addition to Jamestown there are a pair of other townships in the barony, one focusing on another mine the second on agriculture. There are villages scattered through the land as most of them focused on farming, fishing, or serving as a more or less permanent mining camp.
Fortifications: Castle Howlett at Jamestown is the barony's primary castle. It is large, well-built and despite a grim salt streaked outward appearance is full of comforts afforded by the families cosiderable wealth.
Terrain: The terrain of Saltspan is rough and rocky with numerous gullies and brackish streams and brooks. There is farmland on their eastern border but the bulk of the Barony is rich in salt but little else.
The Howlett have no formal vassals but several family members have been granted land as have a number of veteran warriors in the Howlett’s service.
House Howlett's forces are primarily defensive and infantry based with a small group of horse archers to act as escorts for their salt shipments. The House forces while modern and professional troops tend to accent their armor with barbaric touches to intimdate their foes, so it is not uncommon to see the men of house Howlett marching to war with furs over their armor and paint on their faces.
50 Horse Archers
100 Men-at-Arms
100 Crossbowmen
230 Pikemen
20 Sappers
Salt is the center of the Barony’s economy and almost everyone either works in the mines, mill houses or works in a job that supports them. Even so the limited farmland in the barony is insufficient to support its population and food needs to be brought in from outside, however the salt mined there provides more than enough coin to do so. Various baron Howletts have tried to acquire more farmland both from their liege lords and the neighbouring Farrants but by-in-large their efforts have met with little success.
