Hartswood Woodlands - Murnord - Couviere
A maze of maples and oaks the Hartswood stretches for miles for every direction. In spring and summer it's bright and green with its foliage providing shade to hidden groves and burbling brooks; in fall the wood is a riot of color and the leaves underfoot crinkle with every step; by winter the leaves are bare but the wood retains a stark beauty as green, reds and yellows are replaced with white. The wood is full of winding game paths, proper roads, streams and brooks of various depths. It's an easy place to hide and even better place to become lost in, though it teems with game and provides wood and syrup for those who live there.
Marse 22nd, 1867

The hunt, the hunt! The hunt has begun! The horns have blown, and the hunt is on.

There is nothing quite like the thick forests of the Hartswood for a good hunt, any time of year. As winter dies and is giving rise to spring, the maples and oaks are beginning to bud as the pines glint brightly in the sunlight.

The hunt has split into two large groups, one group going after harts, the other after more difficult prey in boar. Either way, the hop is all will eat very good tonight!

Evelyn l'Faust, sporting a favor tied about her arm walks with Antonia, now, her mood somewhat better than when she had been in the Tourney after her poor showing. Her eyes are alert, but her posture relaxed as she keeps an eye out for the boars. "Let's keep an eye on each other's backs," she suggests to Antonia, cheerfully. "I wouldn't want you hurt too badly, before I best you in the joust."

Joffrey t'Synclarre hasn't had much time to settle in since arriving in Hart's Home late this morning. But well, that's what he gets for running late! He's among those on Horseback, with a long boar-spear at the ready as the hunting party makes its' way through the thick forest. While he's alert, he does seem in a pleasant enough mood, occassionally chatting with other hunters before the hunt begins in earnest. Though now? More focused on finding their prey….

Judging from Princess Antonia l'Valdan's expression, the ease in her smile, the glances she exchanges with familiar faces among those who have come to participate in the hunt most will notice that particular glinting in her grey eyes of someone who feels at home in these woods. Which should come as no surprise, given she is by birth a lady of House t'Tremaine, eldest child of Baron Benjamin and his wife Annaliese. Today she is here to compete in the first of three disciplines for the tournament of Love and Beauty, held here in t'Tremaine lands. Wearing a maile armor, dark blonde hair braided and set up in a way that it will not become much of a nuisance, the sword in her hand, she is among those aiming for the more difficult challenge - the boars! She is on foot, approaching where they suspect their prey to surface, breaking through the undergrowth, her senses alert. Her favor - the mismatched showing the elaborate ornamental leatherwork of of an Aequorian artisan, worn on her right hand that holds the sword. A nod is offered in response to Evelyn's remark, Antonia's head turning to meet the l'Faust knight's gaze. The challenge is met with a goodnatured smirk. "We will see about that, Sir Evelyn.", the l'Valdan princess murmurs. "After all, I'll have plenty of time to batter you in the melee first…!"

Making his way along with the others, Sir Samuel l'Corren is walking along with the others, expression alert as he steps along. He keeps his sword ready, he listens to what's being said, eyes slightly narrowed as he looks around.

Gabriel rides casually in the saddle of his charger, a brace of hand cannons strapped to him and a long sword scabbarded at his hip. Quite frankly, he would rather just stay up in the saddle and fire away at any beast that came near. It was also something of a surprise that more people were not mounted and wielding at least a spear like Joffrey was. People would hunt as they would hunt, he supposed. He remains silent, his gaze shifting back and forth, trying to catch sight of some prey. Around his arm is a favor in the l'Saigner colors, one of the tokens he will be putting on display during this little tournament.

While his father, the Baron of Hartswood, leads a group of hunters after less challenge prey, the son and Heir is leading the group on a more challenging venture. Their prey would be boar, a much more fitting target for those who enjoy the thrill of the hunt than just downing some simple forest critters. While some are on foot, Elrick is mounted for this excursion with a boar spear in hand. It appears that he has done this sort of thing before, as instead of leathers, he has chosen to wear chainmail. They are definitely not hunting deer.

The underbrush rustles. And again, before a large boar bursts out, followed by another almost as large (though with far smaller tusks). Boar are often quite territorial, and these are no exception as they squeal and snarl with anger and attack the nearest on foot!

When the boars make their appearance, Gabriel reigns in his horse and draws the first of his three hand cannons. Pointing it at the beast, he sucks in a breath and then squeezes the trigger. Fire and smoke erupt from the barrel as his shot strays slightly off-target, delivering a glancing blow to the beast's head. Unphased, he sheaths the weapon and draws the second. Aiming, he holds his position and fires again. This time his aim is true and the ball goes straight into the beast's skull, dropping it.

Joffrey charges forward to engage the first of the boars that emerges, levelling his spear, but his charge goes awry when the terrific BANG of Gabriel's hand cannon goes off, momentarily sending his mount into a panic, though it's one the seasoned rider manages to get under control easily enough, recovering in time to give the boar a mere scratch as the second bullet Gabriel fires goes right through its' head. With his ears still ringing, Joff turns his attention to the remaining boar, wheeling his horse about to see where it's engaged, and moving to join its' attackers, looking for an opening, or at least a place where he can block a possible avenue of escape.

"Here they come!" Evelyn's voice raises above the forest to alert the hunters with her that the boar are on the move. She sidesteps the first attack, then the second, scoring a hit that will draw blood against one of the beasts. Her second scores harder when she has time to focus more, without being such a target herself.

It's like in the old times they never really got to share. Elrick goes for one boar, and Antonia for the other. And while her own sword does not connect, the other mischievous bad boar chooses to push his advantage by attacking the l'Valdan princess, and takes her unawares, thus causing a light wound at her side, while the other squeeks, delighted with having evaded her attack. Antonia looks up, astonished then, when she hears the sound of Gabriel's handcannons, and then her target go down, dying a swift death. Her head turns, her grey eyes meeting Gabriel l'Saigner's gaze and she nods, in acknowledgement of his… efficiency, before she shifts her attention back on the task on hand - the second critter of a boar that still needs to get killed.

Moving into position as the boars attack, Samuel swings his sword for them. Frowning as he steps back a little, after that first ball from Gabriel get that glancing blow, he shakes his head, but then the boar is downed. "Nice shooting. Thanks for getting the boar and not me,"he remarks, offering a grin to Gabriel, before he moves for the other boar.

Once the boars make their sudden appearance, Elrick is quick into action as he selects the one that is closer to him, boar spear already prepared in hand. One the first pass, the tip of the spear manages to find some purchase on his prey but due to the thick hide that protects the large critter, he only scores a cut. When he tries to wheel his mount around for another pass, the roar of the hand cannon is distracting for both rider and steed. Hand cannons are new, at least to the t'Tremaine Heir when it comes to hunting. The next to stabs with his weapon are misses though he does glance over briefly to the other group, seeing that their prey has already been dispatched. Brutally efficient, that weapon.

As the boar goes down, Evelyn nods, glancing at Gabriel, perhaps eyeing the hand cannons with a bit of envy, or interest. "Seems they have a use afterall," she declares, offering the man, her friend, a quick smile through a quick breath as the effort in her begins to wind down from being so keyed up. Then, her eyes are sweeping around, "Just two?"

Drawing his third hand cannon, Gabriel aims it at the second boar and fires. A mis-timed shot and it goes wide, but luckily it seems that the rest of the hunting party seems to have been able to get the job done. "Sorry for the noise." He says, rather matter of factly. Certainly it was a sound some would not be used to in such situations. And now he begins to reload his weapons.

Antonia's sword cuts through the thick hide of the other boar, not as deeply as she would have liked, but enough to draw blood and make the beast squeal in agony. Her gaze flits to Samuel, seeing his blade dive into boar flesh, then Antonia's head turns and she sees her brother Elrick finish the beast off with his spear. "Well done!", she calls, giving him a smile, when the boar breaks down with another squeak - the last sound it will ever make!

Waiting for a few moments, Samuel sticks out his sword for the belly of the beast as it charge for him. Managing to drive it relatively solidly into the creature, even as the animal manages to bloody him. Stepping back as life leaves the boar, he lets out a breath. "Well done…" he offers to the others.

Finally getting firm control over his steed again, Elrick closes in on the boar, picking his spot as there are other hunters about. With a quick thrust, his spear pierces the neck for another wound and the combined wounds from Evelyn, Antonia, and Samuel brings down the second boar. Releasing a breath of relief, he sees that no one is seriously injured and what happened at Sunreach did not occur here, he shoots a smile back to his sister, "Likewise sister, though you appeared to have scratched yourself there. Well done everyone!" A quick glance is offered to Gabriel and his brace of weapons, grinning, "You may start a trend with those, cuz. A little loud for my taste though."

Well, that was mercifully short, but while Gabriel's newfangled weapons may be brutally efficient, Joffrey t'Synclarre seems a bit disquieted as he urges his horse away from the fresh kill, as no doubt there will soon be retainers swooping in to cart off the game and see it properly cleaned and prepared. He's quiet about it too, glancing at Gabriel and giving a nod, but looking a bit pensive.

In fact, it was effective and quite short indeed! The boars were found and dispatched very quickly, far quicker than the group hunting the harts!

"Scratched, yes.", Antonia replies to her brother. "But nothing more." Her gaze flits to the boar at their feet and she smiles. "That was easy. And… so refreshing."

"Glad to see we're all in one piece. I don't think these fellows were at all prepared for that." Joffrey notes, now finally smiling just a bit. Take what blessings you can. "I suppose we should head back and find a cask so we can give the other party a hard time when they get back."

"A fine prelude to the upcoming events," agrees Evelyn, "And it appears we've bested the other group as well." This seems to please her some. There's a nod to Joffrey, "That sounds even better," she agrees with a laugh.

Samuel smiles as he listens to the others, nodding a bit now. "A cask sounds like an excellent idea," he offers, with a brief grin offered to Joffrey.

Hearing Evelyn, Elrick can't help but grin as he shakes his head, "I have a feeling the other group is more enjoying a leisurely ride through the Hartswood with refreshments than actively hunting like we were. But after battling those barbarians in the frozen north, I doubt a pair of boars would have given knights of our caliber any problems."

"At least they weren't Icebears." Joffrey notes, with not-so-very much humor, really. More than a few here found out the hard way that those things were just as dangerous as any Tirians in the Far North. He does chuckle a bit at Elrick's comment though, "I would imagine His Grace and our esteemed host are enjoying the opportunity to catch up."

"Truth," agrees Evelyn to Joffrey once again. "If I never fight another icebear, I shall be entirely pleased." She frowns at the memory of the one she, and her party encountered. She looks aside to Elrick then, "Might be having more fun, but I've got the best company," she says, quite pridefully.

"Well, while they might be having fun in that way, we have fun in our?" Samuel offers, with a grin as he looks between the others now, nodding a bit.

At the mention of the Duke riding in the party with his father, Elrick can only inwardly groan but his outward appearance appears to be pleased by the prospect, "I am sure they have a lot of catching up to do, and this is the perfect chance to do so." Fortunately for the t'Tremaine Heir, he was not there when they faced off with an Ice Bear up north, which he nods his head appreciatively at how those who went through with the incident dealt with it. As for the company mentioned, Elrick can only flash Evelyn another smile, "I fully concur there."
