Tourney Grounds - Normont - Rivana

The tournament field of Normont is a wide, sprawling field with three tiers of stands for the viewing audience to partake in. A wide field of gravel with straw and mud packed atop it serves as the primary tournament grounds, with embankments that can be used for a separation bar for jousting and barriers setup for melee. A track leading up to the main streets serves as a leadin for the traditional parade for the participants, and when the tournament is being held as a readiness zone for combatants and their assistants coming to and fro to the tournament grounds that is sheltered.

The viewing stands are backed by a large herald of a Falcon, the ducal crest of House Gerrell, made out of laid stone and carved in blocks to be carefully assembled as high as the main stands, marked underneath with a carved map of Rivana and with emblems of the One Faith about it.

The stands are divided up into three main sections. They are wooden stands, braced against stone and metal, with a long overhang to provide the crowd with protection from the elements. A grandstands area is at the center, where the ruling families of Normont sit with their honored guests and those conducting the tournament, with surrounding areas for nobility. The grandstands, of course, have the best view and the most comfortable chairs, and servants go to and fro attending to the nobility. A large flag rests about the grandstands of the heraldry of House Gerrell, the red and black banner displaying the falcon sigil. The next layer of stands are for the richer merchants or those who have managed to pay for better tickets, and are comfortable and have easy access to comforts and sellers taking up food and concessions, and good drink. The lowest stands are for Commoners, and those 'stuck in the mud' - and occasionally they might even get some flung up at them from the combatants. Often sections of the stands will be unofficially divided up to those from specific cities amongst the kingdoms of those participating in the great tournaments, making cheering sections.

There has been a break in the rain that has dominated the proceedings here in Normont so far, bringing a welcome patch of sunlight through the clouds. The tourney field has been rearranged for the melee duels, and though there is sunlight, there's still plenty of mud on the ground. Perhaps by calculation as much as whim of weather. Regardless, the stands are as full as they've ever been during this tourney, with numbers that rival any Circuit event, perhaps urged on by the thought of not soaking in the rain.

The Ducal Box is once again populated by Duke Symon Gerrell and his betrothed, the Princess Dora Callidus of Venderos. Archduchess Eleanor Greycen remains present but aloof, but missing are Jasper Callis and the Duke's younger siblings, though their personal guests are still permitted to sit within the box should they wish.

As the competitors await below, their first combats already having been designated, the Duke chats quit cheerfully with his betrothed, waiting for a signal from below that all is in readiness. Wine and snacks flow freely in the ducal box, and not much less in the higher noble seating. Either way, the brighter skies seem to have also brought a brighter mood for most. Though in a bit of a shock, several competitors who were thought to be certain to make the finals of the melee duels failed to qualify, while at least one mere squire has made the cut. It's made for a bit of an unusual field, that's for certain…though the lack of a certain Cassomir may explain the equal lack of at least one of the Duke's siblings….

Evelyn has remained in focus, visiting the tavern only to relax, play a few games of chance during the Tourney thus far. And now that the duels are here, she's focused on placing as well as she did in the free-for-all. One must make up points, afterall, if they are to have a chance at taking the circuit. She nods towards Liam as she is bracketed with the young man, assessing him with a thoughtful gaze, and slight smile. She salutes him, before the duel sets off, "Let us have a good battle," she calls to him, in good spirits.

It seems like fate is playing its hand throughout this tournament, as the knight of the North, Clarke, faces off once more against the younger Giraldi. Leander shakes his head good naturely as he tips a salute to Clarke. "fancy meeting you here, good Sir. let's give them a good show and I will promise not to bruise you too much."

It did seem that Tiadora had made true upon her word not to attend further events and bring bad luck upon various competitors, though it would seem Emilia had not strayed from sitting in that VIP box again. Perhaps because she sat on the far side of Clara,"It has been of proving to be a most interesting of day of again. I am of thinking the of circuit has held of that theme of late." Leaning a little to see the next round to continue the event.

Further down oin the stands, Amara's mood was as bright as the sun that had finally come out again. The same could not be said of the companion with her, likely due to /that/ Rivanian that Amara was rooting for and not the Couvieri. "He is just doing splendidly!"

Liam salutes politely to Evelyn. "Fight well, sir," he says simply as he prepares for the combat.

Raimond Giraldi has, by some chance, found himself the top seed in this tourney, largely due to a certain Northern Lord not making the final rounds of the duels. So for this first round, he has no fight, and instead waits to see who emerges the victor between Leander and Clarke. How odd to both be hoping to face your brother in the next round and…yet not.

With the sun out, the lower stands are certainly more crowded. The commoners having turned out at a chance for excitement, a thing the day has certialy give them, and not to have the skies open up and drench them through and through. Odilia is amongst those in the crowded stands, the energtic blond seeming to cheer or boo for whom ever is the crowd favorite at the moment.

The Tracano princess giggles softly as she peers down upon the field. "yes…it is a rather unusual turn of events. I would have thought for sure more would have qualified." Clara settles back, tilting towards Emilia. "At least it is not raining today. No flying mud this time."

Lord Thaddeus Greycen, much like Raimond, awaits the results of the battle between Liam and Evelyn. Meanwhile, he gives his tourney blade a few light swings, keeping himself limber as he awaits his own match.

With the signal from below given, Duke Symon Gerrell steps forward, and with a grin as he looks towards the sets of combatants awaiting below, he lifts the hand-cannon he's been using to start events, and fires into the air!

<COMBAT> Liam has been KO'd!

"As would of I," notes Emilia,"of perhaps, even if the sun has come of out, they have had of trouble casting off of the gloom of the rain. " There is a faint tugging at the corners of her lips,"Of indeed, no flying of mud." There is just a mild sigh as that hand-cannon is used once more to get the latest round started. The small sound utterly lost beneathe that loud blast! Leaning forward a little when Liam ends up taking that beating from Evelyn,"He is not of having good of luck this of tournament." Recalling the unhorsing by Thad that her brother's squire had the day prior.

Amara's eyes go wide when Leander gets beat on so soundly by Clarke. Her hands wring upon each other when he stumbles towards the end after another sound hit by Clarke. "I shouldn't have said anything!" The companion smirks. "Your brother will be pleased though, someone needs to give him a beating."

Evelyn does not take the young Lord and Squire lightly, less she misjudge. Age, afterall, does not indidcate skill. There is a fair exchange of blows at first, and Evelyn backs off, waiting to see what the Squire will do. When Liam moves in, Evelyn sees the telegraph and is able to sidestep it and hit Liam in the exposed and open area of his chest by the missed swing, leaving her standing. She nods to Liam then, a show of respect before moving off to face Thaddeus Greycen. The man who'd the past evening bested her in the joust. She has some points to retake back from him, and the implication of that is written in her face, though she knows it will be a solid challenge. "Sir, she greets Thaddeus. "I do look forward to the challenge of this duel." She smiles, briefly, earnestly, and then moves to engage the seasoned Knight and warrior.

Fate can be a cruel mistress. Both Clarke and Leander wail on each other and…as much as Leander doesn't want to admit it, but Clarke is really laying in the hits. Two solid and hard hits to the chest, while Leander was able to return the favor…but not as hard. Both fall…but Leander is the one that gets back to his feet first. With a shake of his head, he extends a hand to pick up the Couvieri. "Now I know how you felt last night. One be with you, Sir." With that, he helps Clarke to his feet before Leander turns to his next challenge. His brother.

Thaddeus Greycen moves to the fighting ring, his expression serious as he salutes Evelyn l'Faust. "Well-met, Sir l'Faust, I'll look forward to giving you one." There's perhaps a tiny touch of humor there. But not much.

Raimond Giraldi grins as Leander manages to come back to his feet before Clarke does, despite taking harder hits. In the few minutes between matches, he rolls his shoulders and neck, taking a few practice swings with his blade before he salutes his brother once they're both in place, "I hate to send you down to the lower bracket now, Brother, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to try."

Serious swings and hits! Odilia cheers for each one, no matter who is getting smacked around. It is a good show. And all the better to get to watch it then be a part of it. One of those meat on a sticks gets waved in the air as men go falling down.

<COMBAT> Thaddeus has been KO'd!

Raimond seems to be leaning more towards the "try" rather than "succeed" in the initial exchange of strikes, as his first two only glance off his brother's armor, before finally he lands a solid strike on the younger man. "Nicely done so far…" Raimond notes, before moving in to strike once more.

The match between Evelyn and Thaddeus has more of Emilia's attention,"Fine of match, that Sir of Evelyn might be of advancing. But did you see that last of hit by Sir of Thaddeus?" Emilia shakes her head a little, quite glad she wasn't on the receiving end of any of that. Though seeing that the Giraldi brothers match is not yet decided, her gaze goes towards them.

"I don't intend to make it easy for you, Brother." And…it seems that Leander certainly means what he says, as he opens with a salvo to the chest….a similar blow as he dealt his previous opponent. Both brothers go at it, as both have glancing blows…then another strike to the chest, which Raimond repays with one of his own. Despite the fact that it is a tournament and points are at stake…Leander is smiling. "So far…just like at home."

Clearly, Sir Evelyn meant what she said. As did Thaddeus. Both Knight have seen their fair share of war, and their blows within the melee are hard, fierce, and well-timed. Evelyn manages to get off the first hard hit, before the two exchange further testing blows. Evelyn risks a manuever, shifting and moving in to place a blow to Thaddeus' feet, the move wins her the match but costs her a rather hard, vicious hit to the chest that staggers her back several steps. she exhales, then, nodding to Thaddeus. "A fine match, Sir. Very fine. I think we both held to our promises."

"That looked like a really nasty strike, Emilia." Clara does seem concerned, though is more relieved when both walk off under their own power. "looks like the Giraldis are almost playing out there, though."

Thaddeus Greycen falls, but not without leaving Evelyn a nasty bruise. "Well fought." Thaddeus replies as he returns to his feet and salutes Evelyn, before moving to the sidelines to await his next round.

Meanwhile, Eleanor Greycen's jaw clenches ever-so-slightly in the Ducal box. But nobody speaks to her. She certainly doesn't look in a speaking mood.

Amara sits on the edge of her seat watching the match between Leander and his brother. "He's already taken so many hits from that first match." Knowing what those words mean, her companion's jaw clenchs and sends a rather stern look at Amara. A look that is entirely missed as the match continues to play out between the bothers until it is the elder that falls, much to Amara's relief.

Blunted swords they may be, but they still hurt and leave mighty bruises. And it is noblity beating up noblity, Odilia shouts out,"Hit 'em harder!" Not that the words carry all that far. There is a rousing cheer when one of the brothers finally falls.

"That took of awhile, I am not of sure if it is of them being well of matched, or not wanting to of beat of the other of up to of much," comments Emilia to Clara about the Giraldis and the rather long match between the two. Other than those respectful greetings, of course Emilia hasn't offered conversation to the newly minted ArchDuchess. But then…Emilia's not had the best of luck concerning ArchDuchesses.

Evelyn clearly needs the rest, after that harsh blow from Thaddeus. She moves to rest on the sidelines, watching the back-and-forth between brothers with some interest, trying her best not to hold the side where Thaddeus hit likely left a rather ugly bruise. There is appreciation in her eyes for the skill of the brothers, and a half-smile that touches her lips, when Leander comes out on top.

"From the looks of it, they were being cautious…but that older one wasn't doing the younger any favors. He kept pounding and that Sir Leander just wouldn't fall!" Clara laughs as she watches the field set up for the next round. "I wasn't sure to feel sorry for the poor man or amused. But…now I am amused. Maybe Sir Leander had his brother just beat on him until he tired."

For a while, it's starting to look like the elder Giraldi has the upper hand, as he lands several strikes on Leander unanswered. "One above…when did you get so hard-headed, Little brother?" Raimond voices somewhat breathlessly in the midst of the combat. Before finally, Leander scores a hit that sends Raimond's blade right out of his hand. Finding himself weaponless, Raimond shakes his head, and laughs, waving a hand to show he yields, panting from the exertion of the fight. "Ha! Well done, Leander. I'd better see you in the finals." He adds as he retrieves his sword and salutes, before throwing an arm around Leander and kissing his cheek, "Now if you'll excuse me, I'll have to go see about getting there, myself."

Emilia nods,"It was of looking like that of way, he likely just of tired him of out. Though he is going to look quite of colorful for of it." The stoic one might be a bit amused but it is nigh impossible to tell. "Will be of interesting if they end up of facing of each other of again in this."

Those unanswered hits were weathered, the younger knight not flinching as he kept trying to hit…and not succeeding. "When? With you and Darren as role models? You should talk!" Finally, that strike to disarm hits, the sword sailing to the side as Leander lowers his sword. "About damned time you got tired." There's a laugh and a return of the embrace. "Go on now and catch up to me for once. Hope to see you after a bit."

Raimond moves to salute Liam now, after a few minutes of rest, "Well met, Squire Haldis. Let's see how His Majesty has done with your training, shall we? Make him proud." Raimond gives him a pleasant, and even mostly sincere smile, before taking up his defensive stance and awaiting the start of combat.

Thaddeus and Clarke render their courtesies, mostly silent, perhaps conserving their strength. In any case, once the signal to start is given, they both move to the attack.

When Thaddeus had taken that ghastly hit to the head, Emilia had looked towards the ArchDuchess before Clara with a mild rise of her eyebrow. It was quite the blow, half expecting him to be down for. But he manages to pull it off in the end. "He's going to have quite of the headache for some of time, I am of thinking. " And there is Liam going down as well,"Quite not of his tournament, but he has held of his own." Especially as a squire against some of the best knights.

It would be hard to say that Raimond Giraldi doesn't dominate his match against the King's squire, but nevertheless Liam shows remarkable fortitude in weathering the assault, and does indeed answer at least a couple of those strikes. When he finally falls, Raimond offers a hand towards the younger man with a smile, "You fought well, Squire. Even making the finals is a credit to your family and your Knight. You'll be on the Champion's stand one day, I'm sure of it."

Meanwhile, Thaddeus and Clarke also turns into a bit of a slugfest, until finally Clarke is the one who falls.

And after a few minutes' rest, Thaddeus and Raimond face each other across the fighting ring, with the Giraldi giving the Lord Marshal a salute that is returned in kind, "I'll try to avoid placing my head directly in the path of your weapon, if you don't mind, Sir. I find it doesn't usually end well for me."

Evelyn lifts herself off her seat nodding as she nears Leander, calling, "It seems you've been practicing, and hard at that, Sir. I look forward to the competition you bring." She salutes him briefly, and as she had her other opponents, gives him a brief smile of sincerity also. Then, she begins to cautiously move towards her opponent, ready to take advantage of the first mistake Leander might make.

Tiadora is late and a bit sulky. Clearly her absence was noticed and a runner sent to bring her to the stands. She heads in to take her seat and forces a smile as she nods to the other dignitaries.

Clara nods. "That was quite a strike. I thought for sure that it would affect Sir Thaddeus more. Shows just how strong of character he has." There is no glance back to the Greycen matriarch…just eyes to the field.

Leander retakes the field, offering a smile to Evelyn as he joins her. "Doesn't take practice to take hits…but to avoid them. So, I hope you don't mind if I try to make you miss." Then…a salute. He is being respectful. "May we both do our best." With that…he prepares himself for the fight.

When Tiadora does arrive to the box, there is a slight blink of Emilia's eyes. A mild nudge to get Clara's attention from the field. Before she is offering Tiadora a corner tugging smile. But then the knights at at it again, whacking each other with the blunted swords. "The healers are going to be of busy this of evening. Good of thing those swords are blunted." Especailly with how hard some of those hits have been, necks and heads!

Amara is focused fully upon the match between Evelyn and Leander. It is quite the match with hits exchanged betweem them. That is until her knight is hit solidly across the chest. "He will have so many bruises." Her companion scowls,"I am sure he has healers to look after him. And your brother will expect you after." A certain sterness in their tone.

Hits upon hard hits! Odilia cheers for each of them. Uncaring on just who is getting beat up at a particular moment. "Good hit!" That partially eaten meat stick waved in the air to cheer on the matches. Taking another bite of the meat after the matches are decided.

Raimond Giraldi puts up a valiant fight in what proves to be another long, well-fought match, with both men scoring powerful strikes against each other, and Raimond coming back to land a couple of hard blows against Thaddeus even after he's staggered once. But sadly for the elder Giraldi, today it's the Greycen that proves the victor, and the three long matches in a row seem to take their toll on Raimond's stamina, and he falls to the Lord Marshal.

"Well fought." Thaddeus notes as he salutes, and Raimond returns it, albeit with no words, being a bit too breathless to summon them, before he finally makes his way off the field, now to just play spectator to a hopeful victory for his brother.

With one Giraldi down, Thaddeus, after a few minutes' break, finds himself faced with another. While the rift between Haldis and Greycen may be in the process of healing, there's little sign of it as the Lord Marshal salutes Leander politely, "Sir Leander." He greets, "Afraid I'm going to have to help you join your brother on the sidelines."

Leander is actually a little nervous at this point. The events of the melee are still fresh in his mind…and the anger of the knight before him was palpable then. And.. now Thaddeus has Leander all to himself. A finger brushes over the favor upon his arm, while Leander offers a nod to his fellow Rivanan. "One be with you." But with me more flashes through Leander's mind.

"Hey," is the greeting Tiadora gives her girlfriends as she settles in her chair. "I guess my absence is noticeable when it's my family box…" She looks like she's had a bad night or rough day or both. "Anything exciting happen?" Although she doesn't sound particularly interested.

"Well fought," Evelyn tells Leander, and moves back to her previous position to rest. Some of the pain from Thaddeus' cleave is ebbing and she's glad of that. She's glad, too, for the repieve to catch her wind, and watch the battle forthcoming, to see whom she will be facing next. And, again. Her features remain interested, but impassive.

<COMBAT> Thaddeus has been KO'd!

Emilia nods a little to Tiadora, giving a brief touch to her friend's arm, in what is meant as a comforting sort of greeting. She knew well the duty of…we..just showing up for apperances. "They do notice such of things, I am of afraid." Giving the field a brief look, as she notes,"It has been of a strange of mix with unexpected of results. Lord of Liam did quite of well." Especially for a squire! There is a slight blink as Leander takes down Thaddeus so quickly. "I guess he was being of tired of getting beaten of up, and not going to of risk tiring Sir of Thaddeus out." This going towards Clara more so.

Amara is on the edge of her seat again with Leander fighting again. Especially given how hard Thaddeus has been hitting others, and how many hits Leander has already taken. But when Leander takes Thaddeus out, Amara jumps to her feet with a loud cheer.

"HA!" Raimond laughs from the sideline, jumping to his feet and pumping his fist when his brother handily dispatches Sir Thaddeus with one solid strike to the chest, and another that (much like earlier in the combat), sends Thaddeus' weapon right out of his hand and into the dirt. "Well done, Leander, only two more to go!"

Not being able to recover his tourney sword without being wholly at Leander's mercy, Thaddeus grits his teeth and offers up the sign of yielding. "Well struck." He grumbles, saluting Leander once the weapon is recovered, before moving to the sidelines himself.

Perhaps that nervousness helped. Or, more like dumb luck. The first exchange between Thad and Leander finds a strike for Leander and none for Thaddeus. Then.. another disarming blow that breaks the grip, causing the sword to tumble to the ground. And…it is hard to tell who is more surprised…Thaddeus or Leander. Leander holds as the Lord Marshall yields…just…standing there. Shocked. At least he remembers to return the salute before Thaddeus leaves.

Then…it's back to Evelyn. Once more. After a few minutes of rest, he rejoins her on the field and offers a respectful salute. "Once again we meet. Good luck to us both." Because Leander is going to need it. Evelyn has had his number all tournament long.

"You and I have both had a formidable showing, Sir," Evelyn greets Leander, nodding yet again to the young man. "You'll forgive me, if I try to avoid such hits as you gave Sir Thaddeus Greycen," she says, with slight humor, "But return the same." She then moves, carefully, to engage her opponent.

<COMBAT> Leander has been KO'd!

There is a limit to luck. Leander almost has his head taken off with a vicious blow to the neck. And somehow, he stays standing. Another blow to the neck catches Leander…but he returns with a strike to the abdomen. He follows up with another, harder strike to the same spot. However, it is Evelyn's low sweeping blow that literally takes his right foot right out from him, twisting him harshly as he tumbles into the ground. There isn't any words…no cry out. But..the hand is up. He yields. Evelyn has taken the match…and the contest.

Amara gasps as Leander takes that rather nasty hit to the neck straight off the bat. Her companion cheers for it and Evelyn! The pair trading blows until another striking blow is taken by Leander in the leg. As it takes him down, Amara is on her feet with a held breath. He had taken so many hits today! That companion rolls their eyes,"Five minutes, no more." Only once there is some movement to indicate that Leader is alive. Alright is still in question after the beatings he has taken. Amara starts to head down from the stands.

Evelyn doesn't discount Leander, afterall, the young man had just defeated Thaddeus, and that was no small feat. She knows he can hit, and he proves it after she's able to get off a devestating hit to put him off balance; she's able to follow up with a good hit to his lower chest, even if she takes the same in return. There's another exchange of blows, and the sore chest is going to be made more sore by another hard hit by Leander near where Thaddeus had already hit, the bruise likely blossoming further, but her recovery is quick, and she topples Leander with another devestating hit. She nods back to him, breathing hard, hissing a bit through her teeth, though she's smiling, "Well fought, Sir. Well fought. Your blows feel as hard as they look," she jests. Still, she's quite proud of herself. No doubt her father, too, will be proud.

Emilia blinks a little,"That was of quick..and I would not be of wishing to be either of them, especially Sir of Leander come of tomorrow." Both had taken quite a number of harsh blows. "I of imagine they both still earned of a number of drinks." Speaking of drinks, Emilia looks towards Tiadora,"Perhaps it is of time for us to go and find some of tea our of selves, of aye?"

Raimond waits for Leander to arrive on the sidelines, grinning and putting an arm around his shoulders, "You did well, Leander. Your best showing in the Duels so far. Darren will be happy to hear it." He lightly claps his brother's shoulder. "Come on. Let's go get cleaned up and find something to eat. We've got the Jousts tomorrow to try to put us ahead."

Tiadora claps politely for Evelyn and her sure win. The girl shrugs a little in reply. "We can go back to the castle if you want," Tia suggests half-heartedly to Emilia. "Or to where you're staying. I mean, it's probably easier if we didn't go to the castle…"

Emilia sends Clara a bit of a look before getting up,"Not of the castle it is of being then. Of come we will go to of the manse and have of a quiet of evening." Leaning to murmur something quietly to Tiadora as they start to depart from the box.

Raimond is waiting for a little while…that last hit took a lot out and Leander sorta hobbles to the sideline. "Oh.. the jousts. I hope to the One that He has blessed the healers. I think a visit to them will be needed at some point tonight." Still…there is a jovial lilt to his tone. He is happy…if really sore.

Tiadora senses: Emilia whispers softly as that depature is made,"There are of plenty of extra of rooms, if you would wish to stay of the night…have of a bit of escape and of quiet for at least of a night. I know it is of much to deal of so with of hosting, and so many of eyes of about." There is a faint corning tugging smile offered, a certain knowing in her eyes. "And I am of sure there would not be of issue for of a night spent of with a Princess and King's of Sister."

There is a nod from Clara. She is just fine with 'other'. "So…back to the Tracano manse then. We can all relax and enjoy ourselves there "

Tiadora gives a faint little nod. "I just thought, in light of um, well… Things…" Tiadora looks mildly miserable. "We can go where-ever. I don't think I've seen the Tracanos residence here."

Emilia nods,"It is quite of lovely. Some fine of paintings to take of in." Not that they will likely be giving any attention to them upon their return. The trio making their leave from the stands and onwards to the Tracano manse, where both Tracano and Cassomirs are residing for the tournament.

Tiadora makes sure Symon's aware where she's heading before she follows with her lady friends. She still wears the look of someone who would rather be elsewhere.
