Tourney Grounds - Normont - Rivana

The tournament field of Normont is a wide, sprawling field with three tiers of stands for the viewing audience to partake in. A wide field of gravel with straw and mud packed atop it serves as the primary tournament grounds, with embankments that can be used for a separation bar for jousting and barriers setup for melee. A track leading up to the main streets serves as a leadin for the traditional parade for the participants, and when the tournament is being held as a readiness zone for combatants and their assistants coming to and fro to the tournament grounds that is sheltered.

The viewing stands are backed by a large herald of a Falcon, the ducal crest of House Gerrell, made out of laid stone and carved in blocks to be carefully assembled as high as the main stands, marked underneath with a carved map of Rivana and with emblems of the One Faith about it.

The stands are divided up into three main sections. They are wooden stands, braced against stone and metal, with a long overhang to provide the crowd with protection from the elements. A grandstands area is at the center, where the ruling families of Normont sit with their honored guests and those conducting the tournament, with surrounding areas for nobility. The grandstands, of course, have the best view and the most comfortable chairs, and servants go to and fro attending to the nobility. A large flag rests about the grandstands of the heraldry of House Gerrell, the red and black banner displaying the falcon sigil. The next layer of stands are for the richer merchants or those who have managed to pay for better tickets, and are comfortable and have easy access to comforts and sellers taking up food and concessions, and good drink. The lowest stands are for Commoners, and those 'stuck in the mud' - and occasionally they might even get some flung up at them from the combatants. Often sections of the stands will be unofficially divided up to those from specific cities amongst the kingdoms of those participating in the great tournaments, making cheering sections.

So a few days of more dry weather have made it so the tourney field is not simply a muddy mess for the Jousts. They were, in fact, rained out for a good portion of the originally scheduled early brackets, and now that has left the full final jousts to be run all here today. The crowd is as packed as it's ever been during an event this tourney, with even a few more people than some of the other events, both due to the "marquee" nature of the Joust, and due to nice weather and even some mild curiousity from the folks of Normont as to what the big deal about this Joust thing is, anyway (not that they're ignorant of it…Paul Gerrell was a famous Jouster, after all…but it's been a long time since a tourney was held here).

Up in the Ducal seating, Symon Gerrell, his betrothed, his soon to be good(half)brother, the Archduchess Eleanor Greycen, and the Duke's family and distinguished guests are seated. Symon and Dora are clearly spending a good bit of time flirting and conversing as matters are arranged down below, and the announcer warms up the crowd as he lists off the initial matches. As the knights array themselves in their proper matches, the din of the crowd finally and fully dies down when the Duke moves to the front of the box, withdrawing that hand-cannon he's been using to start each event. With a bit of a mischievous grin, he lifts the weapon high, pauses for a moment…then two…then…

*BLAM* And they're off!

Raimond Giraldi moves to his starting position, for the moment looking quite…shiny…in his full plate armor. He lifts his visor in salute to the knight that faces him…Sir Alexandra t'Artan. "The One grant a safe and skillful joust, Sir. Though forgive me if I hope for just a bit more skill on my own part." He offers an affable smile, then lowers his visor, accepting his Lance from his squire and getting it situated as he waits for that starting shot…and once given…he urges his stallion into the charge!

Tiadora just rolls her eyes. "I don't know which he has grown more fond of," the Duke's sister jokes to Dora. "You or that hand cannon." She grins a little to show its just a jest. She wears a traditional gown in dark blue but instead of St Donnel on a painted miniature she has one of Paul, worn in tribute or perhaps so he can 'watch' the games he would have been pleased to see. When the charges go off, Tia settles back in her chair and watches in an uneasy silence, running her hand along her carved prayer beads.

The muddy mess of the tournament hasn't bothered Jonathan much so far, even if a bout of illness slowed him down earlier in the week. Today, however, he's (hopefully) at full strength, dressed in plate mail and in the black and red of House t'Maren. He gives the Rivanan knight opposing him a respectful nod as he sits astride his stallion, awaiting the signal. Hefting his lance, narrowing his eyes, he urges his mount forward.

Thaddeus is happy to be present in the field, though he notices that his first opponent is an individual that has irked him already this tournament. He gives a salute to the Giraldi knight and a nod. But once the helm is on Thad's head, he scowls and readies himself for the order to charge.

It seems destiny has Evelyn facing off again Martyn yet again. She sits upon her steed, determined to prove her skill in the joust, especially after her stellar showing in the melee and the duels and her much poorer showing in the jousts, the two performances are at near opposite poles, and that doesn't sit well with her. She sits ready, atop her steed, lance at the ready and she nods her respect to the knight to face her, offers him a smile, briefly before closing her helm and as the signal comes to charge. And charge, she does.

"Those who pray for skill are those who need it most, Sir Raimond." Alexandra's voice bubbles up from across the field, and she grins as she slides her helmet into place. Even clad in plate mail, she has a relaxed, confident demeanor, looking almost lazily across the lists at the southerner she'll be facing in the first round. "Best of luck," she grins, and when the signal comes, she lifts her lance and presses forward.

Well, that was a thoroughly terrible start. Two strikes to zero. Raimond Giraldi's smile is clearly a bit forced as he salutes Alexandra once more, "Well Jousted, Sir. Apparently I should have prayed harder." And with that, he moves off to await his next round, only to find himself facing his brother. There's a bit of a heavy sigh before he notes, "I'd almost think someone was conspiring to eliminate us at this point." It's a jest, given that they could have conceivably won their first matchup, but the sad truth is that one of them will be out after this round. "Well, regardless of who wins, let's give them a show, eh?" And with that, Raimond salutes, taking up his Lance and preparing for the next set of charges.

Evelyn advances, but only by the skin of her teeth. Her riding skills prove to be a hair better than Martyn's, in the three passes, but her win is not certainly a decisive one. A small hit, but a hit nevertheless is the difference maker, allowing her to advance. She nods to the man, offering, "Well ridden, Sir." She then moves to the next match, seeing that she will be now against Devlin Cassomir. She knows well, as all do, the renown the Cassomir line carry in the Tourney's, and she assesses the young knight gravely, venturing, "This will be a fine match, of that I'm certain, Sir." She tips her visor down, then, and prepares to charge once the signal is given.

"Yes…let's show them how it is done." Leander is not exactly happy to be facing his brother…in the loser bracket, no less…but Thaddeus was the better rider. There was no denying that. So…with a grin, Leander takes to his line, ready to tilt against his own brother. "Let's just make sure one of us stands triumphant after the final round."

Round one… not exactly as Jonathan might have hoped. He's good, but Devlin is just a little bit better, and the one solid hit he manages to land on the other knight pales in comparison to the three he takes in turn. A loss on points and a quick trip to the losers' bracket it is. Still, the heir to Bloodfield takes the one loss in stride, and he's pleased to face none other than Martyn Tracano in the next round. "An honor, Sir," he addresses the Rivanan, preparing to spur his mount forward.

Thaddeus smiles as his lance scores a couple of suitable hits, while he manages to dodge well enough to avoid one lance. Thaddeus gives a helmed nod to Leander, while returning to the lists to ready and face a perennial opponent, Alexandra.

Skill, it seems, is on Alexandra's side. Not the flashiest vistory, a little win on points, but a victory is still a victory. She's beaming as she salutes Raimond, and she's /still/ beaming when she turns her horse about to face Thaddeus next. "Shall we?" Without even a scratch from the last one, she's in good shape for the next round.

Tiadora tries to keep herself as impassive as possible, holding firm to her carved waist chain. The victors are given equal amounts applause.

Aaaaand Raimond can practically feel his hopes of winning the Circuit this year crash to the ground as he does, eliminated after two rounds and two lance-splintering strikes against him, even if he manages one good blow against Leander's midsection before he's flung off the back of his horse and into the dirt. He only lies there a few seconds though before making his way back to his feet, lifting a hand to his brother, "Looks like this is your Tourney, Brother. Now let's just see it through to the end, eh?" And with that, he moves off to the tents to get out of his armor before returning to see the rest of the competition.

Evelyn rides against Devlin, and rides better than she has in the last few jousting she's been in, managing to unseat the Cassomir knight on the second turn. She seems satisfied with the turn of events, and tries her best not to let confidence overwrite the need for experience, and skill, to not let the elation of the moment eradicate good sense she will need to use — especially against a knight as tough as Thaddeus Greycen. "An honor, Sir," she tells Devin nobly, and then again she moves to the next opponent, prepared to face a man who had bested her in the joust previously. "I aim to recover the victory you took from me, last we jousted, Sir," she tells Thaddeus, with mostly determination, and just a slight bent of humor. "Still, may you ride well."

Thaddeus' first two passes are relatively uneventful, though his third proves enough to unseat the t'Artan knight, who gets a nod from Thaddeus. As he readies for the next pass, he looks to Evelyn and says, "An honor to face you as well. One go with you!" With that, he grabs a fresh lance and readies to charge.

Emilia has been sitting fairly quietly as the jousts have proceeded, perhaps taking to heart this matter of possibly being some sort of bad luck being present and cheering for folks. Not that she ever cheers all that loudly, well beyond a round or three of clapping now and again. But perhaps why she's managed to not draw much..if any attention to herself.

So far, it's been a quiet evening for Jonathan. The first round, a loss on points. In the second, he only scores the one hit, but it's hard enough for the judges to declare him the victor against a more-than-worthy opponent in Martyn Tracano. And then… things become altogether more interesting as they call the names for the next round. Alexandra t'Artan, his wife-to-be. "Well," he addresses her, lips pressing together, head dipping in a little nod. "Best of luck, Sir Alexandra."

Truth be told…those two hits to Raimond felt good. But Leander still shows concern when he sends his brother to the dirt. He pauses…but sees Rai back up in no time. "I will do my best. It is all any of us can do." With that, he turns to take his line again, saluting the Cassomir at the other end. "May we both ride well'"

First round? Not a scratch. Second round? Opposite of that. Alexandra's match with Thaddeus ends up with her landing on her backside in the mud, and she can't hide her frustration as she looks back up at her opponent. She conducts herself graciously enough, tossing a "well jousted" in his direction, but she's eager to get back up on her horse. And face… Jonathan t'Maren. Great. "Well well," she replies, grinning back at him. "We'll see who needs it, Sir Jonathan."

Tiadora just offers a weak smile to Emilia and a shrug. "At least, um… They're doing okay?"

It would seem that the younger Giraldi and the Cassomir knight are well matched. Both are rather hard to hit…at least for each other. It ends up just being the matter of a single point…one well-placed strike. Just a single hit…but enough to move on. A salute is given to Devlin as Leander rides past…only for Leander to face off against a northern neighbor, Jonathan. A bow is given, a small one, as Leander offers "May the One be with us both, good Sir."

Really, objectively, this round is just as boring for Jonathan t'Maren. Three passes. Two hits landed. A victory on points. It's the woman he's facing that makes it /interesting/. Grinning under his helmet, he addresses her, "You will need to do a bit better to touch me, Sir Alexandra." A moment's pause, and then he turns his horse and moves to face his next foe - the younger of the Giraldi brothers.

Even as Evelyn had Martyn's number for this Tourney, Thaddeus seems to have Evelyn's, in the joust. But she makes the older knight work for his points, that is undisputed, and after the three tilts, Thaddeus gets by with just a single point. Still, however, a victory. Evelyn briefly shakes her head, displeased with herself, but just as quickly she smiles as she can't deny the skill of the man. "Well jousted, Sir. You are the better, this day. One be with you." And she moves off, then, to await whom she will be facing between Leander and Jonathan - either of whom would be a difficult opponent.

Emilia gives a little nod to Tiadora,"Of aye. They of are." Well sort of…since her brother does get knocked out in this last round. This just wasn't his circuit year.

Bah. If there's anything worse for Alexandra than being knocked on her butt in the mud, it's being shut out by her betrothed. But his comment as he turns away, that gets an arched brow and a wicked grin. "You think I'll touch you yet, Sir Jonathan? I'm a /dignified/ lady." Slipping her helmet off, she shakes out her hair, smirking back at him as he advances.

<COMBAT> Jonathan attacks Leander with Tourney Lance and MISSES!

<COMBAT> Jonathan has been KO'd!

Perhaps Alexandra's comment threw Jonathan off-balance, or perhaps he's just outmatched. He does manage to score one decent hit against the Rivanan, but that's as much as he can do, and a series of seemingly minor hits are enough to knock him out of the saddle. "Well jousted, sir," he says, though the reply is half-hearted. His eyes search the area for a certain t'Artan…

A solid round for Leander. Three passes and three hits. although, he does look rather surprised when the last strike results with Jonathan departing from his saddle in a most expedient nature. Leander stops, leaning down to offer a hand to assist up. "it has been an honor, sir." Once Leander is certain Jonathan is okay, he leads his horse to his next opponent. A smile crosses his features towards Evelyn. "And so we meet once more. May we both ride well!"

Emilia does lean forward a bit watching this latest round. It was good to see a Rivana knight doing well. And..there is a blink when Jonathan ends up knocked off. The knight had always been a strong contender.

With Leander advancing so far, Amara was cheering wildly. Especially with that unhorsing. Much to the dismay given the disgruntled look upon her companion who tries to get the tTremaine to sit back down.

Evelyn tips her head to Leander, "Indeed. One be with us both," she concurs. She can't deny that whoever wins this match will deserve it, though she certainly would like another go at Thaddeus after securing victory. Her eyes narrow, some, as she closes her visor in the method of concentration, focus. She rides, and knows this is no time to hold anything back.

<COMBAT> Evelyn attacks Leander with Tourney Lance - ARMOR on Neck stops the attack!

<COMBAT> Leander attacks Evelyn with Tourney Lance but Evelyn DODGES!

As with the rest of the tournament, Leander just can't seem to get past Evelyn. This time, it is a single strike that separates the two. The lone hit catches Leander in the chest. It is not a terribly hard strike, but Leander's lance fails to find purchase upon Evelyn. He offers a smile and a nod. "Congratulations. Once again, you are the better between us. Good luck on the finals." Which…is next. With that, Leander ride off…in good spirits despite not advancing.

Amara does finally sit down, but it is with a bit of a flop as Leander loses on points. It has her companion cheering and earning a sour look from Amara.

With Thaddeus in the finals, Emilia does give a bit more interest to the match. Her dark eyes shifting between the final two to face off.

Thaddeus watches quietly as he observes the bouts between his. Jonathan getting unhorsed gets a grin from under the helm. Always good to see a northerner hit the dust. When it is Evelyn that is his eventual opponent, he gives a nod, "M'lady, good luck." With that, he charges on the signal.

Evelyn is able to score once, once against Leander — but, as a few matches this Tourney, it is all she needs. Leander's skill is not unnoticed by Evelyn, but in the end, it's that first and most important hit that allows her to face off against Thaddeus, one last time. She returns to Leander, "There is honor in your fighting. You are an amazing Knight with the Lance, Sir. You shall only prove to be more difficult when next we meet, I imgaine." Then, she is riding to take position to the final joust of the evening. "As I said before," she tells Thaddeus as she moves into position, "I aim to take revenge for my loss prior, Sir." Another humored touch to her tone. She tips her head, salutes the man, and moves to charge.

Three tilts, and Evelyn does manage to live true to her word, scoring twice against Thaddeus to his one, perhaps having picked up on a flaw, or weakness after that first round where he'd bested her. But, she doesn't have full victory, yet. Another set of tilts will now decide the winner in final. She exhales, tips her head to Thaddeus again. "Once more into the fray, my friend. Let us decide this, now that we are even."

Having brushed himself off after his defeat at the hands of a southerner, it's only natural that Jonathan finds himself cheering for Evelyn l'Faust, the only knight of Couviere left standing. Intently he watches her victory over Leander, and her first over Thaddeus. Hands come together in polite applause, though as they hit the lull between rounds, he takes his eyes off the lists for a moment.

With Thaddeus winning, Emilia actually smiles a little bit…a real little smile..not one of the usual corner tugging numbers…as she claps for the well jousted match between the two knights.

Evelyn does not bother to hide her displeasure over her defeat. But, she can't deny it was an honorable win, and Thaddeus the better jouster. "Very well jousted, Sir. You, this day, are the better." She salutes him, offers the Rivanian a smile, sincere, before moving off to nurse her second near-victory in the joust with likely some expensive ale, and some gambling to boot.

Thaddeus raises his visor after the two sets of passes. "YOu did well, yourself. I am sure that you will carry the day next tiem." He returns her salute and triumphantly rides off to get out of his armora nd ready for the festivities to follow.
