Tournament Grounds - Ostvor - Couviere

Immediately off the heavy stone gates over to the Imperial Lands, nestled inside the inner Gatehouse level visible on all sides, are the tournament grounds of Ostvor. One of the rare (if not the only) large unopened expanse of the city then made up of tightly packed stones then with softer rocks atop them it has been established as a tournament ground. About the size of a large sports field built upon a foundation of stone, there are several divided sections of the stand for the varying countries from the Edge that have sent representatives to the tournament or visitors, appropriately divided by nobility. The native nobles have higher seats as well as the rulers of Couviere. There are smaller sections for commoners lower. The seats are built out of wood and many of them even have small cushions atop them, and a large tarp can be quickly unwheeled over the stands to give some protection from inclement weather. The various sections of the stands have the flags and heraldry of their cities and countries set beneath them. Underneath the stands are vendors selling food and small souvenirs.

The tournament grounds have two stalls setup for those who are competing to enter and leave, and otherwise for those who are giving support to the competitors to be arrayed in - healers, squires, footmen, or others who need to be immediately on hand. A small section is set aside for judges. The area where the actual tournament is to take place in faces the Imperial Gates, and is stone that has had heavy layers of straw and dirt and smaller rocks put atop it to soften it, and the competition grounds are designed so they can be switched around quickly with platforms and equipment depending on what competition is being held.

The weather is clear and sunny as the warriors gather to take part in the Melee Free-For-All of the Ostvor Tournament of 1867 IA. The crowds have gathered, and compared to many Tournaments you'd think it was the Joust being held this day, given how packed the stands and the viewing areas around the "battlefield" have become. The Free-For-All may be one of the most popular events, but it's not usually nearly so crowded…yet another sign of the unusual nature of this particular Tourney, given its' grand prize…everyone wants to see it unfold.

Much the same cast of characters that inhabited the Ducal Box during the Parade is once again found there this day, and Manfred is already on his feet, waiting for a messenger to tell him everything is in order and the Melee may begin.

Eventually, though, that messenger does arrive, and with a nod, Manfred indicates for the announcer below to proceed.

A thin man with a well-groomed moustache and pointed beard steps forward, clad in the livery of a high-ranking servant, and calling out in a voice that sounds too big for his skinny frame:

"Majesty, Highnesses, Graces, Excellencies, Honorable Lords and Ladies, and distinguished guests, welcome to the first scoring event of this tournament, the Melee Free-for-alls! We have a bevy of legendary warriors here, ready to fight for their glory and your entertainment! Will the champions of years past again prove their superiority, or will new challengers rise? I certainly don't know…I'm just an announcer! In any case, let's have a cheer for all our Knights here today, and by the leave of his Grace, the Archduke Manfred l'Faust, may this contest get underway!"

The announcer turns to glance back towards the box, and with a gesture that sweeps over the stands and field alike, the Archduke calls out, "Let the Melee begin!"

Amara sets on the edge of her seat down in the lower section for nobles. She leans forward as the event begins and the many knights start making their first moves. Her eyes dancing back and forth trying to pick out people she knows amongst the large number of knights. It was not the easiest thing seaking out bits of color and sigals to help indentify people.

Up in that are for the higher noblity finds Emilia, along with her sister Raelyn, turned out for the free-for-all event. "There are so of many, I think I see of Devlin over of there." Her hand raising up as her fingers flutter in the direction of where their brother is upon the field. Her dark eyes shifting over the large field of competitors, before looking over to her sister,"It is going to be of utter chaos to of start with." There is a bit of a corner tugging smile offered over towards Tiadora. "Have you had chance to visit any of the shops? We were finding some of the best paints this of morning." Well least Emilia found paints, Raelyn just went along good naturedly.

Gabriel l'Saigner's eyes scan the field, making note of potential threats as well as possible allies in the chaos that is to come. He has no idea who he's going to go after first. Maybe help a fellow double-team someone who was a potential threat? Or maybe focus on defense in the event multiple people try and attack him. Licking his bottom lip, he takes a moment to glance into the crowd to where his wife is seated. He'd have to at least not be the first one knocked out.

Tiadora is still her usual reclusive self. After the last tourney in Normont the Duke's youngest sister has spent much time there dealing with family matters. But she has come for the games as she usually does, dressed soberly in dark green and silver knot work. Her dark hair is covered by a modesty veil although it is brightened up with pink floral embroidery. She still sports her large figure but the corset is less severe and restrictive- signs she has either lost some of her bulk or she's adopted newer fashions. She sits with the usual suspects, the youthful nobility of Sunsreach who socially represent their ladies of court. She looks for the Knights she knows and holds tightly to her prayer beads. "No shops yet," she replies as she looks briefly to the knight in question. "I'm trying not to spend too much of Symon's money this time.."

Vorian t'Maren enters the field willingly enough, clad in his black maile, tourney sword and shield in hand. He's kept close to Lord Sir Gabriel l'Corren, and even now as the melee begins, he looks around to keep track of the other man. And then he's stalking forward, gaze flicking across the various opponents, his head on a swivel to detect someone rushing at him from the sides or back. He doesn't move in a straight line, but in a sort of arc, the better to keep potential opponents in his line of sight. And his arc always seems to lead him back, alongside Gabriel. He glances at the Lord, but does not speak, simply grinning at him beneath his helm.

Evelyn l'Faust is ready - as ready, at least, as anyone could be ready. With Knights both upcoming and famed, and the numbers of such competitors bolstered by the offered prize, she knows this will be likely as tough or not moreso than her first. Her patented smile is still there, though slightly dimmed due to the clear focus the homefield Knight has given herself over towards. Her eyes sweep the various competitors, trying to calculate some sort of strategy to the chaos that is the free-for-all. Then, leaving the Rivanians up to her countrymen, she decides to test her initial mettle out against one of her friends, calling to Elrick, "It has been too long since we last met, Sir Elrick. Shall we greet each other with swords, and perhaps a drink afterwards, no matter what the day may hold for either of us?" She grins full on, then, and moves in to engage the man in combat.

Clarke takes a breath then, and as he goes to get ready he gives a quick salute over to the other participantsand to the crowd, and then goes to let out a grin then as he surveys some of the other combatants mixed in. Vorian gets a slight nod then in passing, and he surveys the knights. Then, with a gleeful look he gazes over at the Rivanans then, and as the group goes to mix it up he passes along them a quick salute, before going to charge in.

Given the mix of the melee, he is cautious then, not going on the attackand holding back then as the first exchange of blows would be probably quick andfast, targeting quickly one of the Rivanans in the first pass as he eyes Sir Quentyn, and goes in with a quick attempted series of slashes if he can get a move on into themidstofthe melee.

Darren Haldis stands between his half-brothers, Raimond and Leander Giraldi, rolling his shoulders and neck and taking a few practice swings with his tourney mace. He's grinning, eagerly anticipating the clash to come. When the announcement comes to begin the fight, he slams the visor of his helmet down and all but rushes forward, bellowing, "FOR RIVANA!" as he cross the field straight towards Gabriel l'Saigner, taking up an aggressive posture as he lashes out at the former circuit champion.

Raimond Giraldi looks more thoughtful than eager when it comes to the impending battle, but he can't help but grin a bit at Darren's enthusiasm. "All right Leander. Let's try to bring home the prize for one of these bloody Free-for-alls for once." He's considerably less aggressive in his charge, taking a more defensive posture as he moves across the field behind Darren, though he does not attack Gabriel himself, instead spying the fellow that seems to be watching his back, and calling out, "Well met, Sir! I don't think I've had the pleasure." Of course, rather than a bow or salute, the greeting is accompanied by a swing of his tourney blade.

It isn't the easiest thing in the world to pick out people on the field, either…especially with it being so crowded. It really is going to be an uphill battle. Fortunately…that was something that Leander Giraldi was used to. The eyes narrow, as he surveys the field. Thaddeus and his words ring harshly in his head. There will be no repeat of what happened in Normont…though it did help to serve Leander's purpose then. So….then…it is on to the Couvieri contingent. A nod is given to Raimond…"Yes…about time we did so." And with that, in he goes into the fray.

In the stands, Alina l'Saigner and her mother Duchess Mina l'Saigner sit primly, hands folded in their laps identically. Alina's eyes are on Gabriel in the crowd below, Mina's skimming the groupings below. Both are dressed in purple and black, though Alina's gown has more lace and more chest showing than her mother does by far.

Stepping in with the other competitors, Samuel grins a little as he looks around. Taking a few moments to try deciding who to attack first, he moves a bit cautiously. There's a chuckle as he sees someone approach. "A lovely day for this," he remarks, offering a brief nod to his opponent, before moving to face him.

A rare and spectacular vantage point for one not actually of noble birth, Esyld Draven stands at rigid attention near the heiress of House l'sianger; enough distance kept to allow the blonde her semblance of space, not so much that she'd be out of reach should someone else foolishly infringe upon that space. Still, attentive as she may be, with the ebon and purple colours adorning her fine leathers, the mercenary can hardly be blamed for casting an eye over the field. There are two t'Marens down there, after all.. and one of them ought to be on the flank of the infamous l'Corren Lord, whose return from retirement so many have speculated over, during the past week.

Jonathan t'Maren is quick enough to move into the fray, of course. He does so with some degree of caution, his blade held in a simple guard, dark eyes narrowing and scanning the field. His gaze falls on the various members of the Rivana contingent first, and perhaps linger on the form of his wife, but not for overly long. It's a free-for-all, after all, and one who isn't paying attention is one who is quickly out. And so he turns to face a longtime tourney rival, none other than the Lord Marshal of Rivana, with a little respectful nod.

Thaddeus readies himself for the fight, taking time to stretch and ensure his gear is donned properly. As it gets ready to begin he shoots a glare at Leander and then awaits the signal as the small man gives the introduction to the fight. Once the fray is ordered, Thad charges, raising his sword, hoping to knock down the t'Maren knight, keeping himself ready to protect against uncoming attacks.

As with all melee events, Elrick is not in his gleaming armor of full plate but instead a more rugged and worn covering of chainmail. Blunted tourney sword in hand, the T'Tremaine is already surveying the field for opponents, most likely the Haldis if he can find the other man. With the special guests in the Ducal box watching and the prize that is being offered, it's more than enough to get his adrenaline pumping in anticipation. Once the expected signal to begin is given, Elrick steps onto the tourney field but is surprised when the first choosing to face him is not a Rivanian but one he easily calls a friend and comrade, who is also calls Ostvor home, Evelyn. The look of surprise is quickly shed and a confident, amused smirk appears, "Lady Sir Evelyn, I am surprised but since you have opted to challenge me, it would be poor form on my part to decline. Very well, I just hope our brothers and sisters out there leave enough Rivanians for me when we are done." With that said, he readies himself for the quicker foe that is approaching.

In the stands, with some of the Rivanan contingent Dawn Bazan watches, craning her neck then to get a view of the knights in the midst then, lightly dabbing a kerchief over her face and watching as they go into the midst of the melee, a light smile on her face.

In the Commoner's section, the lowest areas, Gastogne is watching and lets out a whoop as the knights go into battle. "More of them than the last one..This will be the best tourney we've had in awhile!" He lets out a cheer, trying to watch the combatants.

Raelyn looks back briefly to her sister, following her hand to nod, and wave her hand towards Devlin, as if her brother could see her. "Let us hope he fares well. I've little wish to hear his grousing on the journey home," she teases her sister back. "But, Rivana should have a good showing. Sir Gabriel was one of Jaren's fiercest competitors, but Sir Thaddeus has just as much talent and experience. This should be interesting," she conceeds. She then looks over towards Tiadora, "They really are quite exquisette. You should, if you've not. Take advantage of the opportunity. Perhaps you could go with us, when we go next?" Raelyn's invitation is warm, and open, without any further pressure.

Alexandra t'Maren - she's still getting used to the name, but there's nothing new about this event - bounds into the melee with a fair degree of enthusiasm, a grin touching her lips. Surveying the field for a few moments and noting, with just a little amusement, that she is - as usual - one of very few women there, she turns to face one of the southerners. She's seen this one before, though his first name slips her mind. "Cassomir," she grins at Devlin, raising her blade. "Let's see how this goes."

Joffrey t'Synclarre murmurs a quiet prayer as the Melee begins, wishing safety for all the competitors (and a blessing of skill and perseverance for himself). When the battle is joined, he moves forward with the others, taking up a defensive stance, but moving to where Gabriel is quickly engaged. He saw Duke Darren at the Tourney of Love and Beauty…the man is no one to be trifled with, and removing him from the field would certainly make things easier for the Couviere, and so he hounds the Bastard Duke's seemingly-exposed flank as he moves towards Gabriel. Darren might quickly regret his brash charge into the fray…or perhaps not. Those sorts of things often work out well for the Haldis….

<COMBAT> Quentyn has been KO'd!

"Maybe," Tia responds with a heavy sigh. "Moderation and all that are important. And there's nothing really I want here," she says reluctantly. The Knights salute and start to cross blows so she falls silent to watch. She holds her beads tightly and bites her lip. Some heavy blows and she winces with each one.

"I suppose that is of wise of enough to of consider. Though of surely you kept some of your of allowance for this of trip?" It must mean something when Emilia of all people is actually talking about shopping! Even if it is just paints. "But of aye, you should comme of with us. Clara was not of able to get away this morning, I am of sure she would of love a chance to get out as of well." Emilia sends a small look towards Raelyn,"I dare of say, you are the one who is of grousing more than of our brother." Batting the tease back with a rather stoic turn. "It should be of interesting who of remains after the first of ronuds, there are of a fair number of skilled of knights." Her attention focusing on where her brother fights, least as best she can once the melee starts of, all the chaos of battle. A slight twitch at the one corner of her lips when she sees what looks like a particularly serious hit. And there…"Oh no, it islooking like Quentyn is of out." Noticing more his exit then the actual fight.

Seeing Haldis come after him, Gabriel immediately assumes a defensive stance. He can tell the Rivanan is being aggressive, and he has no desire to get knocked around by that damn mace. Small, hestitant swings are generally ineffective save one small blow, but he's able to dodge most of the Duke's attacks. Relieved that he won't have any mace bruises to deal with so soon into the melee, he catches sight of a winded Raimond and heads towards the Rivanan knight.

Somewhere in the stands, Tristan lets out a long sigh as Quentyn is the first one knocked out of the melee. And here he hoped that Rivana might come out strong this time around. At least there was still some hope to be had.

Alina looks pleased with Gabriel's showing so far, and leans forward in her seat as the melee continues. The Duchess seems to be quite entertained as well, wincing as the first man is eliminated. "I do believe that was one of the vaunted guards of the Rivanans," she says to her daughter. "The field is fierce today."

Thad comes out worse in his fight with Jonathan, but is happy to still be on his feet. As teh fray splits the contest, he finds himself opposed to Samuel l'Corren and lashes out at the knight carefully, hoping to rid himself of the problem of too many Couvieri.

The exchange of blades with his adversary is hard. Clarke takes a hard slug to his head, and gets drivenback, but is driving in again, lashign towards his opponent then to hopefully take him out of the combat. Staggering back, he grunts then to make sure he doesn't tumble down from the chaos of arms and legs. Then, seeing Leander, and remembering thier last encounter in another tourney he grins.

Giving a salute to Leander, he goes to head on in towards the Girabaldi brother he considers his rival from the last time, going on in then to try and flank Leander, with some quick, fast, and lashes if he can then, trying to remember to not get too caught up in the battelfield chaos and remembering well to watch everything, and not just a single opponent!

Beside Tristan in the stands, Elaida lets out a soft, disappointed sigh as Quentyn is the first out of the melee. She had grown quite fond of her bodyguard, after all.

While the Greycen knight is always a challenging opponent, Jonathan seems to have the upper hand, this time at least. The southerner's blade smacks harmlessly off his armor, and he manages a few clean hits on the man, enough to stagger him at least, though certainly not enough to lay him low. There's another respectful nod as the melee carries him away, and he's turning to face one of the Giraldis, raising his blade again in a simple, defensive guard.

"And well met to you, Sir!" Vorian turns to face this challenger full-on; his Lord shall simply have to watch his own back for the moment. As Raimond attacks, Vorian sweeps to meet him. The pair exchange blows, the lean t'Maren knight thrusting and cutting, and accepting a hard blow to his chest in turn. And then the melee pulls them apart and, as Gabriel comes at Raimond, Vorian wheels to attack Gabriel's previous opponent. And he calls out, panting, to Joffrey. "Sir Joffrey!" A pleasure to see you!" And then he strikes out at Darren.

The younger Giraldi trades blows with the skilled Sir Samuel l'Corren. And, it looks that, at least for now, the two seem rather evenly matched. Both score a hit through armor…and neither gained any ground over the other. Leander spins off, his eyes flickering over to consider the field, briefly. His brother certainly looks like he could use some assistance…but that brief glance affords Leander the opportunity to spy that not one, but two Couvieri seem to have set their sights on him. With a sigh and a shake of the head, he beckons them onward…as Leander targets what he thinks may be the more daunting of the two closing in on him now.

As Quentyn goes down, Dawn lets out a wince then, looking down then to make sure that her son is all right and then takes a breath then as shewatches him, giving him a gentle salute in passing then as she looks across the arena then.

Going up against a quicker opponent means that it is harder for Elrick to dodge the incoming blows, so the best he has been able to do is to turn himself at the right time so that the blunted blade that strikes him glances off harmlessly from the linked mail. His first exchange with Evelyn results in only glancing blows but the second series gives him an opening for a solid strike against the Lady Knight's midsection. The third and final, parting exchange with l'Faust was hurried and once more, no damage was dealt or taken before the chaos of the grand melee sweeps them apart. Next, the t'Tremaine heir finds another lady knight bearing down on him, not exactly the type of attention he was looking towards but this isn't attending court either. All he can do is ready himself with his blade raised, his feet bringing him forward to meet his attacker instead of waiting.

A grin is offered as his steps take him towards Thaddeus, and Samuel offers a nod to the man. "We meet again, Sir," he offers, a bit lightly, before he moves in for an attack.

What's-his-name Cassomir puts up a bit of a fight for Alex, and even manages to whack her off-hand once. Not enough to stop her, for sure, barely enough to slow her down. She manages a couple of solid hits on the southerner and grins as she twirls away, facing whatever man is unlucky enough to be her next target. /Not/ her husband, thankfully. Elrick. Alright, then. Raising her sword high, she closes in.

Esyld's blue eyes dart to and fro without a moment's respite! Somehow maintaining a semblance of professional decorum, the raven-maned guard tries to keep track of her Lord Gabriel - a sublime blur evading the blade of that Southern bastard - and her fellow t'Marens - well, her elder brother is a safe bet, but Vorian's holding his own, too, against that Southern fop. Her jawline visibly tenses, teeth gritting as she swiftly takes stock of the clash between Lord Elrick and Lady Sir Evelyn - both talented fighters in their own particular way- and anyone seated to her rear might note the clenching of those hands, clasped at the small of her back. But, seeing as all of her own favourites remain upright, the tension dissipates after a moment. There's even the flicker of a smile, as she overhears the words of the Duchess. Fierce may be an understatement. COUVIERE!

Raelyn saw the hit that took out Quentyn, and she winces, just a little bit, venturing, "That was a wicked turn. THough, I daresay his pride may be more hurt than his body. Though no doubt, he'll be feeling it come morning." She'd seen how the Tourney affected both her brothers to speak with some authority on the subject. Then, in humored defense, she retorts to Emilia, "I merely want him to do well. Is that a crime?"

Evelyn exchanges a few blows againt Elrick, but the blows are more exchanged than given, though her friend does seem to score a hit on a slight opening she leaves. But others are approaching, and she has no more time to see how she might fare against him, instead she turns and as Vorian is the nearest to her that will also give her room to manuever, she moves towards the Knight, blade readied and she moves to attack.

Tiadora circles her fingers around her beads. "Perhaps we need a day of prayer and devotion for our Knights. A bit more honor to the One may be helpful," she says quietly. "Perhaps we have too much pride and not enough piety.."

Raimond Giraldi exchanges a rapid flurry of strikes against Vorian, and while he does seem to come out slightly the worse for it, he does manage at least one respectable strike, even if he receives one in equal measure. "Ah! Well struck Sir! Perhaps I'll see you again before the end." Raimond calls in passing, moving past Vorian to the target he was "warding" earlier, and actually switching opponents with his elder half-brother, moving to strike at Gabriel while Darren himself, having seemingly lost a touch of his fire, takes a slightly more protected stance as he turns to meet Vorian head-on.

Joffrey t'Synclarre does indeed land a few harassing strikes against Darren Haldis, not really more than light bruises, but enough to keep him distracted. As the Melee swirls about them though, he's carried by the tide of battle away from Darren, and finds himself joining the battle against The heir of Seaguard, seeking to retain the same tactic as before…harrying the opponent while Samuel tries to move in for the harder strikes, though he won't hesitate to take advantage of an opening if he sees it. "Heh…likewise Sir Vorian!" He does respond to the fellow that calls out to him.

"Of aye, it is likely more of his pride. But it is of a fierce of field." Not that it takes the sting out of being one of the first to be out. Emilia nods a touch,"I am sure he will have a fine of healer andbe finding of way to put it past of him quickly." A side ways look goes to Raelyn,"No, that is not being of a crime. But I do of think you take it more to of heart then of some, mine-sister." Tiadora's suggestoin does cause a slow blink from Emilia, the Cassomir's eys actually briefly leaving the chaotic field of combat. "You are not already of doing of so before of a tournament?" A brief pause,"I am of guessing that makes of sense of really, as you have not of competed in of combat your of self. There are of such of days taken to my of some, though not all. It is often being of a personal of thing really."

The double teaming of Leander, as far as Clarke is concerned, goes about as well for him as it did last time. He's not gotten any significant hits of note in as far as he can tell, at best a light slash or so that armor takes then, and he quickly falls back then, glancing about the field then and disengaging then as he gives Leander a quick salute. "You're still better than me. I've got a ways to go." He grins as he falls back, his hand on his blade as he surveys the battelfield, defensively.

Taking sight of the elder Giraldi brother, Clarke gives him a salute then, and goes in to advance towards him, stance still cautious and moving towards Raimond. Having not fought him before, he decides it's time then to get a grasp for one of the finest swordsmen of the circuit, heading in with a florishand a few attempted slashes then as he goes in for a quick attack.

With a more aggressive intent against Alexandra than his previous opponent, those watching can tell that Elrick is pressing his attacks with more ferocity than earlier, perhaps having warmed up with the exchanging of blunted blades with the l'Faust. His blows may be relentless but the newly wedded t'Maren is able to accept them in a formidable manner, solid strike after solid strike but she remains standing. The t'Tremaine, due to his more aggressive posture leaves himself open as well for blows in return, taking a pair, and soon he is turned away by two knights that were clashing, separating from his current opponent. The knight that he finds himself look upon is Samuel and since he is a northern knight, a friendly warning is called out, "Sir Samuel, prepare yourself!"

Jonathan's bout with the younger Giraldi brother isn't a terribly productive one, on either end. He doesn't manage to touch Leander once, at least not in any especially effective manner, but then, he only has a little nick for his trouble at that. And so, dipping his head in a little nod as the field swirls about them, he takes a step back, turns to one side, and finds himself face-to-face with, well, the other Giraldi brother. If you can't beat one… "Sir Raimond," he greets the man, raising his sword.

Amara wrings her hands in her lap as hits are traded, some rather serious looking and sounding ones. She watches as knights are knocked out and move, or are carried from the field. A murmur or so to her companion only being greeted by a shake of the head. Amara gives an exasporated sigh by the looks of it before she tries to find just where her brother had gotten to upon the field. (And also likely trying to find a certain Rivanian as well.)

Evelyn moves against Vorian even as the other is facing off against Darren, and thus she is forcing the other Knight to pay attention to both herself, and the formidable Duke. She lands a glancing blow, but is able to land a much harder and vicious hit before the tide might turn against her and she's forced to move to fend off the incoming attacker upon her own person, finding herself perhaps in a similar position and facing off against two opponents at the same time. Who says Fate doesn't have a sense of humor?

Vorian tries his best to drive Darren back from Joffrey, but he has troubles of his own. He cannot turn away from the man he's attacking, not without risking being sandwiched between the two, and so he does his best to evade Evelyn while still at least distracting Darren. And his best isn't very good — he takes a harsh shot to his left hand that leaves him audibly grunting in pain and flexing his hand repeatedly, shaking it as he turns to avenge himself on her. "Well struck!" He takes the time to sketch a salute with his blade before coming forward quickly. He notes the other attacker and circles off to one side, trying to flank the woman.

All told, Joffrey does a successful job of battling Thaddeus alongside Samuel, the pair of them battering the Lord Marshal rather harshly with a series of hard strikes. But then Joffrey shifts away from that battle, intent on another target as the battle rages around him. This time, it's Leander who draws his attention, and he moves to strike at him, though still careful to maintain his balance as he advances.

Raimond is actually pleasantly surprised that Gabriel doesn't clobber him, and while he's clearly not at 100 percent, he's still on his feet, though as he turns to see both Jonathan and Clarke advancing on him, he shakes his head slightly and mutters, "Oh hell. Well, let's get on with it then."

The southern knight sure does not make it easy at all for the two Couvieri to hit him. With two against one, Leander ducks and dodges his way between Jonathan and Clarke…with only Clarke managing to land two relatively light hits upon the Giraldi. It is a testament to Leander's agility. Clarke only gets a nod in response…avoiding blows is hard work! But..then he sees that the double-team has moved on to his brother…and Leander isn't having none of that. "I am not done with you yet, Sir Clarke!" And..with that, Leander's attention shifts to Clarke.

Thaddeus snorts angrily as he is set upon by two Couvieri. As he sees one is Joffrey he laughs, "So you have turned vulture?" He snarls and is barely able to keep his feet during the onslaught. Taking a more evasive stance, he tries to instead keep himself in the fight as long as possible. With that, he works to help his countrymen out.

Tiadora mutters, "Maybe I do need to pray more." Really, she doesn't. But her expression says she thinks otherwise. "And I didn't mean my self entirely. I don't know… Maybe I've been home too long."

Alexandra's next target is a tough one. Elrick hits hard, and he hits hard again, and again, yelping in pain as the third blow strikes. But she gives as good as she gets, if not quite as many, and she's still forcing a smile through the pain when they disengage. "Well fought," she says, and while she's clearly trying to be respectful, it comes out as more of a hiss. Scanning the field, she finds someone she knows she'll be able to take… well, 'knows.' "Good to see you, Sir Clarke," she says as she raises her weapon.

Seeing the t'Maren heir moving to advance on his younger (half) sibling, Darren Haldis ceases his harrying of Joffrey t'Synclarre and moves to join the fray, trying to take some of the heat off of Raimond.

Having two people targetting him, Samuel manages to deliver his own blows while not taking too much damage himself. There's a nod and a smile in Joffrey's direction as he gets that help, before he grins to them all. "Sirs." Turning around, he lets out a bit of a laugh as he hears Elrick's words, "Always a pleasure, Sir Elrick."

Thus far, it must be said.. everyone's old-favourite tourney champion is offering a real lesson in combat. Esyld permits herself a fleeting grin as she casts a glance, of course, in Gabriel's direction. But it's upon Vorian that her gaze wanders back to. He's having a rough go of it, but conducting himself as well as any other knight on the field. Better, actually, if you want to split hairs, than some.

A hand reaches out tolightly touch to Tiadora's arm,"I am of sure, you of all pray plenty for many." Emilia is the dark shadow of bad luck after all! Definitly the little dark shadow at the very least. But as Emilia witnesses Devlin taking a decent hit to the chest, she falls silent, especially as it sends him from the field. Thoguh as she notes who else is of leaving the field, she does note to her sister,"We do not seem to do of well at tournament this of year."

He grunts. He grunts hard. Slammed into then he's charging at Raimond Giraldi and they exchange blows. Right in time to see the woman he fears much Alexandra t'Artan with a blade from some painful, painfully instructive spars in the previous months come at him. He and Raimond exchange blows, then as Alexandra cleaves at him. And so Clarke falls to his knees.

Gasping out, forcing himself back up to his feet and wheezing, the Couvieri Knight forces himself back up, charging at Alexandra again, slashing quickly and then falling back. Gasping heavily then and saluting bothher and Raimond in the melee as he tries to get a sense of the battlefield. Breathing heavily, he goes on the defensive now, trying to hold back as he catches his breath. Saluting Sir Darren, he goes in on the attack against the Rivanan knight, holding back heavily due to his exhaustion and barely keeping on his feet as he goes in.

The fighting is fast and dirty now. Vorian joins a trio of attackers ganging up on Evelyn — but the woman seems possessed of preternatural grace, and she manages to evade all of his strikes. Perhaps he's simply too beaten-up after his earlier exchanges. But as someone else lands a strike, Vorian turns to attack the Lord Marshal of Rivana. It's a quick exchange — Vorian manages to evade the other man's skilled attack and, grunting, drives the tip of his sword into Thaddeus's sword-arm just above the elbow, seeking a joint in the armor.

Sir Evelyn is suddenly surrounded on all sides, three Knights descend on her and it's nearly all she can do to parry, and dodge. But she is fierce, as she virtually dances between those who would see the l'Faust Knight fall early in the melee, and she manages to score two solid hits against Devlin and take the Cassomir Knight down; but it comes at a price, in so evading Thaddeus and Vorian's attacks, Devlin is able to knock her off balance with his own last resolve hit, and sends her toppling to the ground. Evelyn does not let this fluster her, as she might've last year. She scrambles to her feet, and immediately turns on Thaddeus, scoring yet another hit before he is knocked down. Evelyn moves away from the scene, lest she be set upon again and moves to her next target.

Taking that hit to his stomach sends Samuel a few steps backwards. "Ouch… Good hit…" he mutters, before he looks around again. Look, there's Raimond! "Well met, Sir," he offers to the man, then moves in for an attack.

Expecting only one opponent, Elrick is not as lucky this time around as the chaos of the grand melee manages to push yet another knight towards him, this one the famed champion of last year's Circuit. Despite the formidable odds facing him, the t'Tremaine has full confidence in his own skills, perhaps a bit much as he continues to advance with intent on one l'Corren, knowing the other (ex) is not far away, always wary for the extra blow incoming. The first exchanges against the cousins results in only a light hit that Samuel manages to sneak through to his sword hand. However, the t'Tremaine heir manages to pull off a rather brilliant feint against Gabriel, only to swing back hard against Samuel, a brutal blow with the blunted instrument across the l'Corren's midsection, knocking that man back. Even before waiting for Samuel to fall onto his back, Elrick turns back against Gabriel and launches another strike but his cousin is just took quick, the blunted tourney blade catching air while he in turns finds another blow. Then the chaos sweeps them up again, another knight bumping into the back of the t'Tremaine. Thinking that it is another opponent sneaking up on him, he turns around and quickly swings, more to put distance between himself and Darren than to land a blow. But finally, Elrick gets a chance at Darren and it is one he will not give up easily, "Haldis!" He growls out, perhaps a bit too enthusiastic at the southern knight.

Gabriel and Raimond have their fight, Gabriel coming out ahead only because he manages to land a single small blow early in their encounter. Raimond's speed, and Gabriel's defensive stance prevent anything more than that. Thankfully his new training has helped his speed as well and he manages to straight up dodge all three of the Giraldi's attacks, not letting a single one hit his armor. And now it was time for a new opponent. Elrick would do for now. Especially since the man was attacking his cousin, Samuel.

For the first part of their encounter, he encounters no opposition and he's free to swing. Not allowing himself to be baited into being overly aggressive, he remains cautious and lashes out when he spies an opening. Scoring two hits against Elrick, even if they can barely be called hits, he nods to the man and then moves off to find another target. He spies Clarke helping Elrick go after Haldis. He eyes the man, nods, and then moves in to attack.

As the fighting gets brutal in close quarters, in the Commoner's stands Gastogne lets out a whoop then, cheering for the Couvieri knights. "Let them have it!" He lets out a cheer then for the Lady of Ostvor, fighting in the melee and holding her own!

Dawn looks up and spies Emilia over in the stands then and gives her a nod then, trying to track the remaining Rivanan knights in the fight.

It turns out that Darren's attempt to take some heat off Raimond works relatively well, at least if Jonathan is the particular heat he was worried about. Breaking off his original plan of attack, he turns to face the Duke head-on, and the two trade blows, strength against strength, skill against skill. But his attention, of course, is drawn to the swirling melee where Alex is at the center, and when she crumples to the ground, he grimaces, his expression brightening only slightly when she gets back up. Disengaging from his brawl with the Duke, he turns to face another entering the nearby fray. The Red Knight. Yes, he'll do.

Raimond, whose swings are already looking a fair bit slower due to the exertion of the intense battle, takes a few more hits and staggers, going down to a knee but recovering back to his feet swiftly enough. He shifts to an even more defensive posture, though, even it it means he's having little luck returning any of the strikes levied against him. The chaotic whirl continues, and he finds himself moving in front of Samuel l'Corren, bringing his blade up, but clearly more intent on not being hit than striking back, for the time being.

Thad's efforts to aid the Rivanans are cut short as he is soon set upon by more Couvieri. With a blur he is out of the contest and making his way back to his tent. Where smashing can be heard by those paying attention, with an order to a carpenter for furniture sent out not so long after.

Tiadora just sighs. "No, that's my fault," Tiadora insists to Emilia. "I should go, speaking of prayer. Perhaps one of our Knights will stand a chance then." She can run off here, it's not the high box she's stuck on. Who will notice a noble girl slipping away as the final fights draw attention?

Well….that is a twist. A three-on-one, with Alexandra, Leander and Raimond all on Sir Clarke. Well, that's a new one. But Leander doesn't stop to consider it much as both he and the northerner female knight swing at Clarke and connect. The collective effort seemed to have worked…but then, in a moment, Leander realizes that he is next to a Couvieri…and instinct takes over as he and Alexandra face off. Of course…that doesn't stop Joffrey from taking his shots at Leander, which land rather solidly. And so, spinning off of Alexandra, he turns to face Joffrey, allowing the knight a tip of his head and a brief sword salute before Leander attempts to repay Joffrey's kindness.

Bastards. Alex certainly wasn't expecting to be set upon by three of them at once, and she's cursing under her breath - when she has the wind knocked out of her by a rather timely blow. The t'Maren-by-marriage crumples to the ground for a moment, but it's not long before she rolls back onto her feet, and her expression is all teeth. Turning to face one of the participants in the three-on-one, she lunges at Raimond.

Emilia barely catches the nod from the older woman further down in the stands, namely when her dark eyes pull back from followign her brother's progress off the field. She gives a small nod to Tiadora,"I am of sure it is not of your doing. I will be of seeing oyu later." Knowing her fried's mind was not going to change.

Despite her obvious inclinations in favor of her brother and comrades, Esyld's attention drifts, perhaps inevitably, toward the tTremain heir as he sets up for an assault upon that damned Duke. surely today he'll finally have his victory? If not, well. There's good ale in Ostvor. That'll heal all kinds of hurts. Even wounded masculine pride.

Joffrey t'Synclarre continues his harrying attacks, but as the free-for-all continues, he finds himself in a pocket of relative calm, and while he maintains his defensive posture…he does not seem intent on lashing out at any target in particular for the moment, instead letting the battles play out around him. Perhaps at this stage of the game he's reached his threshold for comfort in piling it on alongside other attackers.

Craning her neck, Dawn watches the Couvieri and the Rivanans mix it up, trying to keep track of who is still on their feet and lets out a cheer then for some of the well struck Rivanan knights!

Gabriel comes in behind Clarke, steps to the side, and as Clarke is attacking someone else, he comes in and slams his blade into the other knight's abdomen. All while dodging Jonathan's attack. Seeing Clarke slump to the ground, he turns to face the t'Maren, smiling as he dodges a second attack and lashes out, his blade only skittering off the man's armor. A second attack from Jonathan, and Gabriel dodges, spinning away, his sword hidden from view until it comes slamming into the other man's chest. Deciding to go from one t'Maren to the next, Gabriel eyes Alexandra warily as he approaches her.

And down go the three men who were on top of Alex a minute ago. One, two, three. Granted, Leander gets back up, but it's enough to bring a grin to her face nevertheless, especially given the part she played in knocking him down in the first place. And then she finds herself face-to-face with… the man who just landed a rather gruesome blow on her husband. Well, this won't be difficult at all. "Sir Gabriel," she laughs back at him, leveling her blade at his chest.

It is nearly hopeless, as Leander's countrymen fall left and right around him. Fending off multiple swords himself, Leander just isn't quick enough to make them all miss. A solid strike to the chest has Leander gasping for air, while the sword drops in the dirt. But, he wasn't raised to be a quitter…not when his Duke and brother is still up and standing, facing all comers. Leander reaches down, fetching his sword and retakes his stance. He isn't about to stop now…not yet.

Lumbering through the batte, Vorian finds himself attacking Leander. He salutes briefly before striking; his first blow, at least, seems to have some small effect. But perhaps the rangy knight is growing tired — he lands two more strikes, both of which flinch off Leander's armor as though they were mere taps. And when Alexandra manages to land a heavy blow to his chest, the young t'Maren knight turns to seek some other opponent. After a moment, seeing Gabriel attack Alexandra and realizing that his Lord seems set to knock the entire Family out of the battle, he hesitates there on the dirt. Duty, or family? And then he turns away from both, washing his hands of it, and stalks toward Elrick.

Well, it was a valiant effort, but ultimately it's just too many enemies to handle, and a quick one-two from Alexandra and Samuel manages to knock his sword from his hand. "God damn it all…I'm going to have to nail that thing to my gauntlet one of these days." But without a weapon, Raimond has little choice but to signal that he yields, going to one knee and lifting his hands, palms outward.

Joffrey is hounded by Leander, who does manage to score a hit or two unanswered, but it's not the younger Giraldi that concerns Joffrey as he moves to the attack this time, but rather the Duke of Eastfield, who seems equally inclined to cross weapons with the Unbroken, and so the two square off near the center of the circle, sizing each other up a few moments, and then surging forward in the attack.

When one goes after the Red Knight, one gets the Red Knight's sword. Jonathan miscalculated, leaving his stance too open, and he pays for it with a brutal blow to the midection. Damn. Damn. And as the melee swirls around him, Gabriel is now stalking toward Alex… But there's nothing Jonathan can do except intervene on behalf of his other relative still in the fray, and so he charges Leander, hoping to take some heat off Vorian.

Amara gasps! *GASPS* When Leader stumbles and falls. She looks some mix of relieved and worried when he gets back up and continues on. Amara watches him fight on for awhile before her eyes are trying to find her brother on the field. He was still up wan't he? Oh, there he is!

Focus on staying on your feet, Samuel. That's what he's telling himself, as he's facing two opponents. Taking a few hits from Evelyn, he focuses on Raimond until the man is down, then turns towards the l'Faust. "Oh, hello," he offers, swinging and missing as he takes another hit. Trying to find a new target, he looks around, and then grins a bit as he approaches Gabriel. "Hello, cousin…" It's said lightly as he moves for the attack.

Whether inspired after a good showing against both Samuel and Gabriel or pushed by other factors, Elrick's strikes on his Haldis opponent is relentless, blow after blow raining down on the other knight. But the southern knight proves that he is made of much sterner stuff and after taking two solid strikes, is able to deliver a punishing hit against the t'Tremaine's chest. This pushes the heir away from the Bastard and for now, the engagement is blocked, forcing the northern knight to go after yet a different target, but he will not forget. Taking in the briefest of moments to suck in some air, the perspiration is dripping down Elrick's cheek and chin. Seeing a clear path between himself and Vorian, his target is clear and once more the blunted tourney blade is raised, "Sir Vorian, I see you are still standing! Let's see if I can rectify that." He calls out with a rather grim grin, perhaps the Haldis is still on his mind?

Emilia's dark eyes pick out the remaining Knights from Rivana, tracking their fights as best she can. They were few to be found within the remaining field. Commenting to Raelyn,"I am of go and see how Devlin is of doing in a few moments." The comment the only indicator of how she thinks things are going to end.

It was a valiant effort…but the numbers prevailed. A solid hit from Sir Jonathan strikes Leander's neck and…while he was already having some difficulty breathing from the blow struck by his newly christened wife, the blow to the neck was too much. A hand, palm outward, signals that the younger Giraldi yields…even if he cannot speak it outright at the moment. With that…Leander gathers himself up and heads to the sidelines…which is much too full of Rivanans.

"At least he's not an Ice Bear." Then after Joffrey receives a punishing blow from Darren, he staggers back a step before moving in and joining with Evelyn in returning the strike with equal measure. "Ow…on second thought. Maybe he's half ice bear." Still, the joint strike carries him past Darren, and Joffrey scans for a new target. After a moment, he shrugs and grins, saluting Evelyn, "Shall we, then?" And with that, he moves to test the very knight he was just fighting alongside. All in good fun, of course.

Having focused on Gabriel, Samuel doesn't get out of the way of the incoming hit to his arm that causes him to drop his sword. Picking it up with the other hand, so nobody will stumble on it, he makes his way off the field, his normal hand hanging a bit limp right now. Looking for a place where he can lean towards something and watch the end of this.

Vorian trades blows with Elrick, but he comes off far the worse — he manages to strike the other man down to his knees for a moment, but when the famed t'Tremaine warrior comes up again and lashes out, he sends the t'Maren knight spinning into the dirt with a brutal slash to the side of the neck. Vorian scrabbles in the dirt, coming up onto his hands and knees, gasping for air. And then he manages to push himself to his feet and staggers back into the melee, seeking a new opponent. He finds Darren, and salutes the Rivanan before beginning to close with him, looking a trifle unsteady still.

Darren Haldis takes more punishing blows from his Couvieri opponents, but despite the accumulating bruises…the Bastard Duke remains on his feet and fighting, landing a more-than-solid blow on Joffrey before shifting past him, right into Vorian's attack. He manages a perfunctory salute, but it's so brief it might almost be missed before that mace of his is swinging through the air towards the t'Maren knight.

All things considered, Alex does pretty well in her bout with the Red Knight. True, she doesn't manage to hurt him, but she dips and dodges and deflects her way out of every blow /he/ tried to land on /her/, and that's a victory in itself, isn't it? Besides, she's delighted to see Jon finish off the final remaining Giraldi. Who would've thought that she'd be standing after all three of her attackers fell? And that means there's only one Rivanan left, who does, actually, look like he's starting to tire. Wouldn't that be something, to take down the Bastard Duke herself? But she can't very well let Vorian beat her to the punch, and so she's running at Darren, blade held high.

Gabriel tries to exchange some blows with Alexandra but the best he can manage is to put a few scratches into her armor and stay on his tippy toes by dodging all of her attacks. He was doing a lot of that this time around, moving around on his toes. Turning away from Alexandra, he finds himself facing Elrick, who seems to be wanting to have another go. Shrugging, he advances on the other knight.

The blows between Vorian and Elrick are certainly nothing like timid swan dancers twirling around each other, but two hardened veterans exchanging blows that would most certainly mean death or permanent harm if the tourney blades weren't blunted. Though the t'Tremaine is the first to be driven to a knee by a solid strike to his chest, he does not give himself or his opponent time to rest, perhaps that is what surprised the t'Maren. A vicious blow is send at the other knight's neck, the armor doing it's job from doing any extreme harm though it most likely will be felt after the melee ends. That exchange was enough to put enough distance between the two knights and after offering a silent but respectful nod to Vorian, Elrick turns to find a new target, this time the untouched Champion that had chosen him earlier. Table may be turned this time as he moves to assist Alexandra.

Evelyn twists her attention towards Joffrey, after her score of a very hard hit against Darren, "At least half," she agrees. Then, "A more worthy Knight to dance with I'd be hard pressed to find," she agrees back to Joffrey, her breath coming hard and fast, but there is plenty of 'steam' yet in her and she launches a feint, a new move that she'd been practicing in secret, shifting her direction at the last moment and hoping to find an opening in Joffrey's strong defense.

Amara is up out of her seat when Leander goes down. And there is someone elses hand forcing her back into her seat. Which has Amara /glaring/ at them before huffing at whatever she gets told. She turns her attention back to the field and those remaining upon it just in time to see her brother take a hit that sends him down. Once more she is gasping and upon the edge of her seat.

All things considered, it was a good round for the three t'Maren knights. While his cousin managed to lay Elrick low, if only for a moment, Jonathan tore into his attacker, finally dropping the younger Giraldi with a powerful blow to the neck. Whirling about, he watches the end of Alexandra's battle with the Red Knight, and he's delighted to see her hold her own despite her injuries, Gabriel not managing more than a glancing hit on her. Well, one can't let the pressure come off /that/ one. He closes in, cautiously, but nevertheless…

In his exhausted state, Elrick is not able to defend himself fully against Gabriel who manges to parry his strike rather beautifully, which leaves him open to a rather decimating counter-blow. The attack from the Red Knight crashes into the chainmail protecting his chest but the physical blow itself is able to send the t'Tremaine flying back a couple of feet, landing on his back with the wind knocked out. Laying there for a few moments, stunned, Elrick is finally able to roll over to his side and slowly stagger off of the field, more out of exhaustion and the bruises he has collected than any specific wounds. This grand melee was not meant to be for House t'Tremaine.

Darren finally is driven down to his knees, under the barrage of a great many opponents over the course of the last few minutes. He gives the sign of yielding, and there's breathless laughter from beneath his helm, "Hahaha…well done…only took what, a half-dozen of your best?" He chides, but either way he's soon making his way off the field, and he even managed to down one of his opponents before he fell. He's had worse tourneys.

Jonathan's next bout with Sir Gabriel is much like his first, absent the crippling blow to the chest. He and the Red Knight trade blows, and much to Jon's consternation, his adversary still seems to be untouched. At the very least, though, Darren Haldis crumples to the ground at the other end of the field, guaranteeing a Couviere victory if nothing else. And so, with the field of targets rather thinned, he turns to face Joffrey, greeting his cousin with a respectful nod, as his wife and Gabriel turn to face one another…

Vorian manages to evade Darren's hammer once; he is not so lucky the second time. As his own sword strikes at the other man's chest, his sword-arm is battered by that hammer and the weapon falls from a nerveless hand. He grunts, stumbling to his knee, but can only weakly grip his hilt and so, exhausted, he retreats off the field to the Noble stands.

With Elrick going down and staying down, Amara is back to her feet. Her hands wringing over each other as she watches, waiting for him to move. She manages a small breathe in relief when he does finally move and manages to move from the field on his own power. This time there is no keeping her in the stands as she weaves her way out of the crowded seats to go be a pest amongst the healers.

Well, /that/ worked at least. Alexandra is one of two t'Maren knights who drop Darren under a withering array of blows, and she can't hide her grin as he falls, even if he did manage to take Vorian down with him. And then she turns about, and there are only three other knights left… one of whom, regrettably, is Gabriel. Oh boy. Here we go again.

Evelyn's strategy works, and the new move does, indeed, land in on Joffrey, and she's able to follow it up well with another solid hit. But even somewhat seasoned Knights can get overeager, or even succumb to the skill and patience of a more experienced, hardened veteran such as Joffrey, and so it is with Evelyn. Joffrey's counter sends her to the ground, and she rolls once, before clambering up to her feet, exhaling, and shaking her head some. Still, as she moves off the field she gives Joffrey a nod of respect, even a well wish, that he likely won't see. The Knight, afterall, still will have much to concentrate on.

Raelyn nods to Emilia, "I think, perhaps, I shall move down and join you," she conceeds, with a wry smile. "There are still many events, however. I shall hold out hope, yet," she tells her sister as she moves to stand and move down the stands to visit her brother, and encourage him to 'hold in there'.

Gabriel steps towards Elrick, and without saying a word, side-steps Elrick's opening attack and then slams his sword right into the man's chest. "Sorry." He says curtly, before turning towards Jonathan. Doding the t'Maren's blow, he swings again and misses. He then targets Alexandra. Again, he steps to the side and dodges the initial attack, only to step forward and hit her in the chest, repeating the same attack he's used several times before. And now there were three. Staring at both Joffrey and Jonathan, he gives the two men a nod, and then stalks towards Joffrey.

It's a grueling affair between Jonathan and Joffrey, one that lays both men low for a moment, and Jonathan finds himself growling under his breath as the Red Knight quickly dispatches Alexandra. Struggling back to his feet, he, along with his adversary of a moment ago, turns to face Gabriel l'Saigner. And his stance is open and furious as he approaches. Caution will do him no further good.

From the sidelines, Clarke t'Cauthone watches, going over to salute the remaining participants and look at long line of those who have dropped. In awe then as the clash of blades continues, some of the finest exchanges he has ever seen in his life, and likely will ever see. Murmuring, "This might be thebest it shall ever be."

"Damn." Alexandra held out for as long as she could, which turned out to be quite a long while. But Sir Gabriel turned out to be just a shade better. There's no flourish in the attack that takes her down, just a good, clean hit to the chest. Wordlessly she salutes him and steps back to the edge of the field, watching as her husband and Sir Joffrey close in on Gabriel.

Joffrey does indeed stagger from his exchange of strikes with Jonathan, before canting his head towards Gabriel and commenting, "You know, my goodbrother is over there looking awfully clean. Maybe we should at least try to get him to break a sweat, eh?" And then he turns to meet Gabriel, not having the luxury of going on the attack as the Red knight bears down on him.

"Of aye, there are still many of events. This is just of the first." Emilia making her way along with her sister as that last Rivana Knight is knocked out. "There is of hope yet. If of all else, perhaps I should work on my of skills for next of time." It's a joke, right? Some mild attention is given to the remaining knights slugging it out as way is made to go check on her brother and see just how serious his injuries were, or weren't.

Jonathan and the other knight, on any other day, likely would have been more than a match for Sir Gabriel. But he's wounded, and Joffrey is wounded, and perhaps most importantly of all, the Red Knight is having the round of his life, not even a scratch on him. It only takes a single blow to the chest before he's dropping to one knee in a gesture of surrender. "Well struck, Sir Gabriel," he says. "We'd missed you on the Circuit."

In the Commoner's stands, Gastogne rises up then over and goes to clap, chanting and cheering for the Red Knight. He stares in open faced awe then at the Lord then and holds his hand up to the l'Corren victor and starts chanting his name!

Two versus one. Gabriel nods, it was expected. The other two were already winded and while he had been busy dodging like his life depended on it, he still felt like he could go on and fight a dozen more rounds. First it was to be his goodbrother Joffrey. "You've done well to make it this far, Sir Joffrey. I am sure my sister is proud of you." Stepping to the left to dodge Jonathan's swing, he quickly steps to the right and smacks his sword into Joff's chest. No time to worry over it, he rolls, dodging Jonathan's next attack and comes up thrusting, hitting the man square in the chest. Standing up, he glances at the field. Seeing no one else standing, he tosses his sword away and then makes his way to the side. He was thirsty.

Alina is already down at the bottom of the nobles box, being let on to the field to see her husband. As she reaches him, she slides her arm into his and already begins chiding him for his lack of etiquette as they move towards his tent to get him water and cleaned up.

Heading down then as the melee ends, Dawn heads to check on her son, otherwise makings ure that he is oka while otherwise watching out across the field. They shall get their time again against the Couvieri..

Well, defensive posture or not, Joffrey is too slowed-down from the rest of the melee to adequately deflect his attack, and it does indeed send him onto his back, and this time he signals his yielding, moving to get out of the way of Jonathan and Gabriel's final, brief exchange. "I'm not sure we needed to bother fielding anyone else for Couviere today." He chuckles, moving to the sidelines to remove his helmet and get some water. Though there's a touch of a pensive frown when Gabriel tosses his sword aside and moves to the sidelines.

Joffrey's not the only one frowning, either. Up in the Ducal box, near everyone had been on the edge of their seats, but that little display of disregard for the hosts and audience as Gabriel makes his way off the field has Archduke l'Faust red-faced and white-knuckled with his grip on the railing, as he has effectively just been "dissed" in front of the Imperial delegation, the Queen Mother, and seemingly half of Couviere who's sitting int he stands and standing in the viewing areas.

Evelyn knows her father all too well, her eyes moving immediately to the box he sits in as Gabriel pitches his sword and walks off the field without so much as a word, and she frowns, deeply at his clear anger. She can understand it, certainly, but she knows Gabrie to some degree, and has fought by his side, against him in several Tourneys, and her gaze strays towards him, that frown still on her features, before catching some of the looks of the other Knights around. She says nothing to those around her, despite any looks she herself might get, and instead hurries a bit faster to get her things together, and depart from the field.

Alaric l'Faust has thus far been fairly quiet from his perch up in the Ducal box. It was a thrilling spectacle, of course, and he was on the edge of his sheet with everyone else. But when Sir Gabriel tosses his sword and stalks off the field… well. His eyes flicker from the Red Knight, to his father's distinctly unamused face, and back to the Red Knight. No, he may not be on the greatest of terms with his father, but that sort of insult… "I wonder," Alaric muses aloud, not speaking to anyone in particular, but certainly loud enough for the occupants of the box to hear. "Whether his union with the l'Saigner has taken a bit of shine off Sir Gabriel." Pause. "Certainly hasn't hurt his sword-arm, though."

Color Jonathan surprised. He'd dropped in a gesture of respect to the event winner, and he was still on his knees when the Red Knight tossed away his sword and walked off the field. Leaving him, strangely, as the last knight physically there, and in a position to receive a highly unusual smattering of cheers for the second-place finisher. And so he pauses for a moment, and, retrieving his sword, lifts it in a half-hearted gesture, before walking off the field as quickly as he can manage without actually running.

Clarke t'Cauthone slowly rises, going togive a stiff, pained, one armed saluteover to the Red Knight. His arm is held up to the victor, and he has a look of flat out and complete awe on his face.

Duke Cesare l'Corren rises to his feet, moving over beside Manfred, hands folded behind his back, and his deep voice subdued, a thoughtful expresion on his face, "Manfred, I apologize for my son's behavior. You know as well as any that the battlefield sometimes wears the niceties out of men, and Valetta was as harsh a battlefield as any. Harsher for some than others."

Manfred gives an arched brow to Alaric, but gives no sign of berating him, his tone is icy when he responds to the Duke of Murnord, however, "Your sentiment is appreciated, Cesare, but your son is a man grown. If there is an apology to give, then he should see to it himself. A future Duke of Lonnaire should know better, harsh battlefields or not." He flickers a glance to Mina l'Saigner, who rises with as much grace as she can muster before speaking, hands clasped before her,

"My daughter and I will speak with him, Your Grace." She gives a curtsey and moves to leave the box, unhurried, and yet with a touch of urgency as well.

Of course the Red Knight ended up winning. Even knowing how formidable his opponents were, given how the night was going, Alexandra couldn't be surprised by that. But his display - or, well, lack of display - at the end was definitely a surprise. It's strange for her for a number of reasons. Partially because she's not the sort to pass up a chance for showmanship, and partially because, well, the Archduke he just insulted was her liege up until quite recently. Old habits. Still, she tosses off a salute in Gabriel's direction before wandering away from the field.
