Hometown Shuffle May 05 2015 Theodora
If you are playing a character from a certain city that isn't Rovilon, Lonnaire, Sunsreach, or Sanctum (the ones we already plan to have built by open), AND you'd like at least one room on the grid for your hometown, here's the skinny.
We have all the fiefs named and set out. If you need information from us regarding the lands of your home, please shoot in a +request and we'll answer it within ~24-48 hours. (Depends on RL work being troublesome :) )
Once you have whatever information you need (whether you need to request it or not), you can give our friendly builder guy more work to do by +requesting the following information:
* City name and Fiefdom Location
* Based on the size of the fiefdom:
* * Lordships: 3 public Rooms Max, including Keep
* * Baronies: 4 public Rooms max, including Keep
* * Counties: 5 public Rooms Max, including Keep
* * Duchies/Royal: 6 public Rooms max, including Keep
* For each room, it needs a NAME, exits listed, and a desc.
This isn't to say we won't add more rooms to any area (especially private areas like chambers etc) later, but for starting off it helps keep our builder sane.
You can just link a Google document in your request if you'd like, as well.
Thanks!

CharGen May 06 2015 Theodora
Character generation is now fully functional, all the way through to the Approval room! There's a few more touches I want to make but they are more aesthetic than anything else. So, feel free to finish up your character applications!
Make sure if you're copying a BG from the other game that you're making sure the appropriate name edits have been made and you bring the BG up-to-date with the current timeline— that just keeps you from having our app staffers from send it back to you for changes.
As always, if you find a bug, let me know with a +request, and I will do my darnedest to get the quashed prior to Soft Open!
Much love!

Help with Descs May 21 2015 Theodora
So, the grid is being built (thanks to Harald, who is awesome), but large swathes of it remain undescribed. ("Just a 'This is a temporary description' in the description box.)
For those folk who are the sorts that enjoy writing descs, we need some help, especially in the city areas! We'll start out with a few descs but add to this bbpost as they get done.
Right now, the descs we need most are:
* Rovilon Tourney Grounds
* The Lobbed Scimitar (a tavern and inn in the Mercat circle)
* The Throne Room of Aveyron Castle
* Aveyron Castle Courtyard
* The Mercat Circle (marketplace)
Things to keep in mind about Rovilon: Open city plan, and coastal. Rovilon is made mostly of stone from nearby mountains ranges for buildings that are meant to last forever (like the castle) or wood for ones not so permanent. The entire city, though open and lacking any real walls, has a sense of elegant timelessness. Only the castle has any real walls to speak of, and it is only a Class C or D Fortification, built more for beauty than for protection. Rovilon is designed in a series of circles with the castle in the middle. The docks are just a partial circle that is part of the Gatehouse Circle on the western costal area of the city.
— Reply by Theodora at Wed May 27 12:52:19 2015 —
Updated need to desc list:
* Throne Room of Averyon Castle* The Lobbed Scimitar (tavern in the Mercat Circle in Rovilon)
* Rovilon Tourney Grounds
* Royal Library of Garfana
* Courtesan Academy in Lonnaire
* Courtesan Academy in Sunsreach
* The Demon's Due (tavern and gambling hall in the low-class sector of Pacitta)
* The Gilded Gump (tavern and inn in the high-class distrct of Pacitta)
If you want a manse in Pacitta, Sunsreach, or Rovilon (ducal level or higher is a given, barony or county only if your wealth is considered 4 or higher on the 5 point rating), you will need to send up a desc via +request please.

+roster! May 27 2015 Theodora
So, the +roster system is fully working, and you may notice even has a few charcaters on there for your perusal! If you're stuck coming up with a concept (or maybe just are thinking of picking up a more diplomatically minded alt?) we've listed and added the (currently non-player) characters that are also within the diplomatic envoys from their nations that would be playable.
Just check out +roster, and for more details on any character, +roster <name> will give you what you need to know! Feel free to ask us about these characters (though they are only rather loosely concepted) and +roster/claim away!

Channels May 27 2015 Theodora
Channels are up and functional! Please take a moment to glance over @chan/list and add yourself to the channels that are for you. (@chan/join <name>)
Kingdom Channels
Add yourself to the Kingdom channel that matches your faction.
Duchy Channels
Add yourself to the Ducal level channel that matches the duchy you reside in. (For example, if you play a t'Cauthone, you reside in the duchy of Lonnaire.) If you have any questions of concerns, page an on-duty staffer and we can help!
GM Channels
Need a channel to chatter on while in combat? These are the GM channels, and a GM will direct you to which one to join when they run a scene.
Public Channels
Newbie and Public are considered public channels. Newbie is for new players or people going through chargen to ask questions. If you can help, please feel free! But if you don't know any answer, it's okay to let a staffer answer it.
Remember, Public is PG-13, and Newbie is PG.
OOC Channels
We have a few OOC channels that don't have anything to do with the game to try and keep certain things off of Public…
* Politics: For all things political RL. Some people get aggravated to talk or hear about such things, some people enjoy talking about it, so we've given you a channel for those who want to discuss things like this. Try and keep it friendly.
* Spoilers: This is for discussion of recent movies or books or TV shows without worrying someone is going to say SPOILERS! I HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET. So get your media chat on.
* Sports: Talk about your favorite sportsball here. Expect this channel becomes more active when a game is on.
* XXX: Pretty much what the title says. Anything goes here. Expect NC-17 conversations.
If you have any questions, let us know!

Vacation Time! Jun 21 2015 Attila
Hey All,
Just a heads-up, I will be vacationing with family next week (The 22 through the 26th). I should have access from my hotel, but while I anticipate I'll have some time in the evenings to myself, much of the week will indeed be taken up by family adventures and such, so I may be rather scarce. I'll be back late on the 26th, and back into "normal" (or whatever passes for such) mode after that.
Thanks,

The <Newbie> channel Jul 19 2015 Napoleon
Hello MUSH!
I just wanted to make a statement regarding the <Newbie> channel. As this channel is set aside to aide prospective players (Guests) and players who are currently creating their character, the staff of Creation's Edge has decided to limit access to who is on the channel.
If you find that you are no longer on the <Newbie> channel, this is why.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a +mail.
Thank you and MUSH on!
~ Napoleon
p.s. Feel free to read up on a wonderful post Dora did earlier (+bbread 2/6) regarding other channels you can possibly join.
p.p.s. If you have questions about the game, please feel free to ask them on <Public> or to page an ON DUTY staff member.

+nexus allows you to set your IC location to the IC Nexus, but it can only be used while you are OOC. This will help simulate faegate travel and also help people move around the grid a bit easier.
If you run into any issues or problems, either toss me a +mail or submit a +request.
Thanks!

Earn Xtra XP! Jul 26 2015 Theodora
Hey everyone! Would you like to earn some extra XP and help the game out?
We need some help descing our public areas. Each usable desc will earn 1/2 an XP point, to a maximum of 5 XP per month. (Of course, if you want to do more, you can and we'll appreciate it, we just can't offer XP for them.)
Public areas include:
* Overland rooms (examples include Lonnaire Countryside, Lacora Swamplands, etc)
* City map rooms
* Places of Business (Taverns, Shops)
* Public areas in keeps and castles (Entrance (usually a Courtyard), Great Hall, Throne Room (for kingdom-level palaces)), and family quarters.
They do NOT include:
* Personal, private bedroom suites
* Semi-private areas of keeps
If descing an area (for XP or personal use) is also a proposal to build (as in, the rooms do not exist currently on the grid), please keep the following guidelines in mind:
1) A private bedroom, even if a suite, is only one grid room. The desc can state it is more than one room (many high ranking nobles will have suites)
2) A keep should have no more than eight (8) total rooms, including the required Great Hall and Family quarters or wing. This does not include private bedrooms. (Semi-public rooms can and should be combined with the detail view if they aren't going to be used very often.)
3) If you are proposing a city build, we already have the major duchy-level cities either built or laid out to build. If it is a lower-level city, the limit for city map rooms for a seat is: County, 5… Barony, 4… Lordship, 3. Anything that is not a seat (a village or a township) is limited to 1 grid room.
We have all the fiefs named and set out as far as terrain etc. If you need information from us regarding the lands or rooms you wish to desc, please shoot in a +request and we'll answer it within ~24-48 hours.
Keep in mind we do have the ability to use +detail on rooms to show more detailed room descriptions if you desire (+help +detail).
All individual room descs should be in separate +requests.
Thanks!

Earn Xtra XP, Part 2! Jul 26 2015 Theodora
So you still want to earn more XP?
Talk to an on-duty staffer about taking a roster charcater through chargen! Some (not all) of our rostered characters need to be fully chargenned and approved to make it easier for some people coming into the game to pick up.
Each approved character is worth 1 XP on approval (and yes, if you have alts, you can specify which alt gets the XP).
How do you do this? Ask an on duty staffer which charcaters are available to go through CG with. Then you'll be given their password, log in, and go through CG! If they have relatives on-game, be sure to talk with them just like you would if you were CGing this character for real, and have their +sheet(s), concept, +finger, desc, and BG done. You can (and should) even chose a played by for them!
For people who enjoy CG but just don't want to have too many more characters, this can be a fun way to earn some additional XP.
Any questions? Ask a staffer or send a +request or a +mail to Staff!
Thanks!
Dora

+plot Oct 05 2015 Theodora
All right, everyone! So, there's a new function that you might want to try: it's +plot. The Syntax is +plot Yes or +plot No.
What does it mean? Well, if you say "yes", then you're giving staff permission to throw plot at you. It is consent that you are granting approval to staff to incorporate your character into plots and to be hit by the plotstick be surprise. This is your acknowledgement the plotstick may not always be positive and shiny but you don't mind.
If you choose No, then you do not want us to involve you at all, and you want to do your own thing mostly privately and don't want to be surprised.
If you leave it blank, then you just want the status quo. (you can also +plot Status Quo) That means we don't go out of our way to involve you but you can feel free to involve yourself.
Why are we doing this? Well, some people like staff-run TPs and some people do not. We have a lot of world here we can throw at players, but not all of it is pretty and automatically winning. So feel free to use the new functionality and we'll see what trouble we can get you into.
Thanks!

For those of you paying attention to the rumor boards, you know the Brodlunders are up to their usual tricks. We will be running two short TPs in regards to them, one in Couviere in Bloodfield and one in Rivana on the coast off Goldhollow. For those who would like to take part please +mail me, Gandhi, with your availability in the next couple of weeks and try to move your character ICly to somewhere you can move to take part (Rovilon or Lonnaire for Couviere and Sunsreach or Ironhold for Rivana). We will try to accomodate everyone, but if it turns out you can't make the scene more fun will be coming, we promise!

Advanced Characters Oct 31 2015 Attila
Hello All,
After some thought and discussion, we have decided to reclassify our categories of characters a bit. As such, we are now introducing the concept of Advanced Characters. Many of the concepts that were previously Elite Characters now actually fall under the Advanced Character heading. A few characters that previously had no designations will now be Advanced or even Elite Characters. For a full rundown of what constitutes Advanced or Elite Characters, see the ?Advanced and Elite Characters? at this link:
http://creationsedgemush.wikidot.com/advanced-and-elite-characters
You may find that some of your characters will be tagged with the ?Advanced? tag if you meet the criteria on the page. The good news is that there is no limit to the number of Advanced Characters you may have (up to the total alt limit). Nor are Advanced Characters subject to any activity requirements beyond normal characters. Further information on Advanced Characters can also be found on the ?Character Generation? Page, including the criteria for writing a strong background..
However, a very select few may find that their characters are now Elite. While these characters will be ?grandfathered? in as ?earned? Elite Characters (and thus you may still choose to apply for an Elite Character if you have not already and a suitable character is available), then beginning in January they will be subject to the activity requirements for Elite Characters as normal.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask the staff, and we?ll try to get you answers as soon as we can.
Thanks…and Happy Halloween,
Attila

Wedding Travel Part 1 Nov 06 2015 Attila
Hey All,
The Royal Wedding of Queen Alysande Tracano is on the 14th of this month, so if folks are traveling from Couviere, now would probably be about the time to leave (assuming they're traveling via Faegate, otherwise they needed to leave about a week or two ago). Just a few things to keep in mind:
1. Each Duchy of Couviere has rented one Manse within Sunsreach, and the important noble guests from that Duchy will be residing there (that means PCs, basically). So all the folks from Lonnaire are in one manse, the folks from Murnord in another, Ostvor a third, and Rovilon the last. All the Manses are in easy walking distance from each other, and reasonably secure. They also have enough room for everyone who ICly shows up to live comfortably without quite feeling overcrowded.
2. All active noble PCs may assume that they are, at a minimum able to get seated in the "main" wedding feast. They might have to be riding the proverbial coattails of their liege/be part of their liege's entourage to do so, though!
3. If your House is of Barony level of lower, chances are you wouldn't be able to be seated in the Cathedral for the Wedding Proper. Exceptions include those with direct ties to the bride and groom (or a direct invitation), direct vassals of either marrying House (Cassomir or Tracano), or other particular exceptions, mostly involving those with blood or marriage ties to houses of Ducal level or higher. Viscount (and above)-level nobles and their immediate families can all attend freely. The Cathedral is big…but it isn't limitless. The wedding will be a memoir anyway so it's not like you're missing a big scene. ;) This is just a heads-up so you can know whether or not your character would actually be present at the wedding proper.
4. The Wedding is just the beginning of what will effectively be a month's worth of celebration in Rivana, starting with the Wedding, going through the Harvest Festival, and culminating in the Sunsreach Tourney. So Rivana and Sunsreach are going to be the center of RP for the next month. Doesn't mean you HAVE to go there (but pretty much any noble character could reasonably be there), but chances are the bulk of the playerbase will be around. Obviously, if your character has no real reason or desire to stay for the Tourney or have pressing business at home, there's no need to stay the whole time.

Wedding Travel Part 2 Nov 06 2015 Attila
(Continued)
5. The city of Sunsreach is PACKED. Every Inn both within the city walls and in the wards just outside the walls is full, so individual arrangements for out-of-towners (Ie not staying in your Duchy's manse) are not really possible, unless you want to be sharing a common room with well…commoners (or a stable with horses). The Innkeepers don't care who you are, there ain't no room at this Inn. They are booked solid. Also, the streets are pretty much always crowded and generally things are bustling. The atmosphere, however, is cordial and cheery, and while certainly crime is occurring, it's generally swiftly dealt with or kept under wraps. Almost everywhere you go there should be a crowd (especially in Inns and Taverns). Just something to keep in mind for the atmosphere of things. This will ebb somewhat immediately following the wedding, only to surge again when the Tourney hits.
6. The Harvest Festival is the week of Thanksgiving. There is only one staff-run event on the 21st of November, but the festival itself will be going on all week. It's pretty much what you'd expect: Lots of pumpkins and beer and eating contests (and cooking contests) and whatnot. There is some information available on the wiki, and if you have any other questions about the festival feel free to ask staff.
7. If you have NPC requests for your characters to interact with while in Rivana, the earlier you submit, the more likely we can accomodate you. However, please note that unless you are a Royal, have a VERY good reason, or preferably both, Alysande and Jaren will probably be a little too busy to pay personal attention to each and every well-wisher. If there are social concerns regarding the wedding, Princess Clara Tracano is the person to see (and who your character would be directed to ICly). Just as an FYI, none of the Dukes or Duchesses of Couviere will be in attendance at the wedding (instead sending their heirs or other children as representatives, along with proper entourages). King Jean-Paul and Queen Louisa will be attending the wedding but will return to Couviere immediately afterwards.
8. Following the Sunsreach Tourney which concludes in Mid-December, there will be no staff-run plots starting again until the beginning of January due to the typical Holiday lull. Folks are free to RP stuff that furthers current plotlines, and of course to RP amongst themselves. We will be answering +requests but may be a bit slow (especially around the Christmas and New Year Holiday proper). Enjoy your Holidays (whatever they may be)!

Ironhold County Jan 04 2016 Harald
Greetings, fellow Edgers.
Just in case you might be interested, the County of Ironhold, located northeast of Sunsreach, has been created for your roleplaying pleasure. This county is nestled in the Duchy of Sunsreach, in the great kingdom of Rivana, and is home to the Cassomirs and the famed Huntresses. It is also known for its forests and, most importantly, the iron ore produced that provides the county its name. Should you Southerner types want a break from Sunsreach, feel free to wander just a bit northward and have scenes in lovely downtown Iron March, the main seat of Ironhold. Who knows? Maybe you can stay at Roseguard Castle, one of the newest castles in Rivana.
More information on Ironhold can be found on the wiki, under the House Cassomir page.
Happy travels,
Harald, your friendly neighborhood building contractor

Things to Know About Court, part 1 Jan 17 2016 Theodora
Let's just jump right in.
You may +request facetime with any of the NPCs that are at court. In Rivana, that means Queen Alysande, King-Consort Jaren, Prince Martyn and his wife Princess Johanna (just remember she is in the last month of her pregnancy and will be less inclined towards politicking as her time grow closer), and the Dukes/Duchesses will be around until the voting for Archduke/Archduchess in Early to mid February, so Duke Symon Gerrell, Duke Darren Haldis, Duchess Eleanor Greycen, and Duke-Consort Rodrigo Greycen (if you can pry him out of the library or the Royal Menagerie, he does make a viable alternative to bothering the Stone Lioness personally if your character might be intimidated at the idea of Eleanor breathing fire on them). Also the Alhazred contingent (as seen on the bottom set of tabs here: http://creationsedgemush.wikidot.com/theme:grand-treaty ) will be available for facetime as well.
In Couviere, King Jean-Paul, Queen-Consort Louisa, Dowager Queen Cynthia, Princess Aliza, Princess Emmaline are all available for scenes as well. However, the Dukes/Duchesses have NOT returned to court, instead sending their heirs, so if you have business with duchy-level politics (which you very well might/should) it would be best to +mail Alina (for Duke James), Michael (for Duke Cesare). Manfred's oldest son Osric is an NPC for right now, so if you need to speak with him, +request as you would for the Royals.

Things to Know About Court, part 2 Jan 17 2016 Theodora
Just because these NPCs are available for scenes does not mean we will be running purely social scenes with them. Staff does have a limit on how much time and energy we can devote to running NPCs— to be clear, we WANT to run them for you, but we don't have the time to just be doing tea and crumpets every night for another player, and ICly the NPCs don't have time to waste on tea and crumpets either. So, if you request a scene with any NPC, please have an agenda (and it would be good of you to include that agenda OOCly in your +request) beyond just chatting them up. There's a lot of positions opened (or that can become open) in the court. In Rivana there is the Archducal election. And of course, there is the upcoming Grand Treaty which will touch on many aspects of things, economically as well as socially.
When in doubt, please ask a on-duty staffer. If you want to get involved with the politics of court and are not sure how, in particular Theodora, Attila, and Bismarck are always open for questions on what aspects of court your character might be able to get invovled with.
Speaking of getting involved: Court Factions. Even if you are not currently a member of any faction at either court, it is highly unlikely you will stay unaligned for long. Think of the factions like political parties: you can be independant but that doesn't really get you much traction on your goals. Having allies in the form of your faction can help you advance your agenda (though, of course, you will be obligated to help your allies in their attempts to advance their agendas as well). Simply put, this gives you a better ground to stand on to move your desires for court forward (whether personally or on the behalf of your house).

Things to Know About Court, part 3 Jan 17 2016 Theodora
We have some overviews of the current factions at both courts on the Court Politics page ( http://creationsedgemush.wikidot.com/theme:court ). However, if you desire or need more details, those are forthcoming in additions that will soon be made to those pages, but until that time if you have questions, again, please ask. Theodora and Gandhi are the "experts" on the various factions, and are glad to help give you guidance on what faction (or factions) you may want to try and join.
As a side note, many of the factions have divisions within the faction itself. For example, the Songbirds in Couviere have two distinct subfactions, the Progressives and the Conservatives. They have their own agendas that they push at court, and work as often against each other as they do with each other.
And should you need a scene with other NPC members of your faction (or just guidance on what the current agenda of the day is), feel free to put in a request. We will try and fill them as quickly as possible.
And yes, Winter is Court season, but these requests can be made any time. :)
Happy Politicking!

Equipment Updates! Mar 27 2016 Theodora
Hey everyone! For those of you who have acquired new weapons, horses, etc through roleplay, tournament wins, or bidding in the auctions, you need to update your equipment lists! Please put in a +request with your updated equipment as soon as you can!
We are leaving up the previous tournament events for one week from today (3/27, so they will come down 4/3) so that you can reference them for your updates should you have won any tournament prizes in the Venderos tournament.
Also! You might want to update your Possessions tab on your wiki page as well… going forward we are going to be a lot more strict about equipment matching up with what you use in combats, so if it's not on your +sheet2 under Equipment, then you don't have it and can't use it. So please update your Equipment lists and wiki page, especially after tourney wins! :) If you have any question, please page an on-duty staffer.
Thanks,
Dora (and staff)

Some Staff Changes Aug 27 2016 Attila
Gandhi is stepping down from staffing here at Creation's Edge due to real life. He will be maintaining his staff bit (though it will be changed just to Staffer - Retired from Head Wizard - Player Relations). He will still be around and playing his characters.
At the same time, Theodora will be moved from Wizard - Code and TPs to Head Wizard - Code and Politics. She has been functioning in a wizard capacity since game launch, so this should be an easy move. She will be assisting Attila with any Head Wizard duties.
If you have any questions, please let staff know!
Thanks,

Plague! READ THIS. Oct 15 2016 Theodora
All right, so the plague that's been being hinted about in Pacitta is beginning to spread to the Edge as a whole. If you were at the masque, you were definitely exposed to it, so here's the full skinny on it:
Body Score and You: If you have a 1 or 2 Body, you are definitely catching it. If you have 1 Body, you die. End of story. If you have 3 Body, you are Very Likely (80% or higher) to catch this (maybe not initially but eventually… this plotline will be running for 3-4 months). If you have 4 Body, you are about 50/50 on catching it. If you have 5 Body, you probably won't catch it, but if you choose to, you'll definitely survive.
Mortality: This plague has a 40% mortality rate. This means 40% of the people in world who catch it will die of it. It has a 80% catch rate… so 80% of the people on the Edge will catch it. Yes, this means a lot of people will die of this plague. PC death is only going to happen, however, if the player of the character chooses to kill off their character. Yes, this will possibly change some of the things established as NPCs die off (court positions may open up, heirs may become heads of houses, etc). You are more likely to die from it if you are old (50 and older), young (9 and younger), or have a low body score (1-2). You are more likely to catch it if you have a lower body score (1-3), have a weakened immune system (young or old), or abuse alchemicals (for example, Duke James l'Saigner will be catching it for sure… since he abuses Neversleep).
Symptoms: The first week is rather mild: fatigue (even some extreme fatigue) and a mild fever. The second through third or fourth weeks are the bad ones… High fever (102-105 F or even higher (and fatal)); rash over most of the body that's pink, scaley, and mildly itchy; extreme fatigue; upper respiratory congestion (complete with difficulty breathing, often productive coughing, and running nose); and the finger and toenails begin to loosen and can even fall out, as well as hair beginning to fall out. THESE ARE THE ONLY SYMPTOMS. (Please don't pose, like, ebola-type bleeding from orifaces etc. That's entirely different. These symptoms are bad enough and fatal enough. :) )
Treatment: There is no cure for the plague. Nor will there be a cure for this plague. There is not a magic alchemical that fixes things. Once ill, the illness runs its course (from catching it to the end, 3-4 weeks). The symptoms can be treated (and it's pretty necessary to do so to survive it) but the illness itself has no cure.
Healers (5 Healer or higher, or 5 Apothecary or higher)… Salves and creams can help calm the rash somewhat. It won't go away but it won't itch as much. There is silver willow bark that is used for reducing fever… it only grows in the county of Savora (Couviere), mostly in Savora and Duon, and the county of Northmark (in Rivana), mostly in the Upper Pines and Highwatch. People will either chew the bark itself or make a weak tea from it. Steam with and without herbs will help with the upper respiratory. Nothing can be done about the fingernails, toenails, and hair.
Yes, "cures" and charms to ward off the disease will be sold by any number of charlatans and hucksters. Many will believe in them. Most healers will be treating the sick wearing plague masks with herbs stuffed in the snoot. Healers of Healer 5 and higher know to wash themselves well with soap between patients to help not spread the illness (they don't know about germs but they do know illness "clings" to people and can be spread through touch).
If you have any other questions about the plague metaplot, please +request or page Theodora!
Thanks! Staff

Holiday Hiatus Dec 05 2016 Theodora
Happy Holidays, all!
Given that it's that time of the year when a lot of people are traveling and spending time with family (and some of us poor suckers have finals this week and next), Staff and any staff-run events are being placed on hiatus until January 15th of 2017. Until that time, you are all free to scene and pose and do whatever you'd like in that vein, there will just not be any events hosted by or run by staff for the next few weeks while everyone enjoys their holidays.
Staff in general will be around and answering any +jobs that are put in, we just may be a little slower than usual knocking those out. :) (Specific staffers, like specific players, may or may not be gone for days or weeks due to holiday travel and such, but those of us available will fill in.)
As far as the IC situation is concerned, we will be posting a "State of the Edge" post within the next couple of days that will be the last major update until we come back from hiatus mid-January.
Winter is usually court season but with the current state of things with the plague it's perfectly acceptable for characters to choose not to go to court in Rovilon (Couviere) or Sunsreach (Rivana) if they so choose.
Also, as we on staff like to give out a little Christmas gift to our playrs each year, this year is no exception. This year, we will be giving out 1 Point to be spent on everyone's character sheet as they wish (though you cannot use it to bring any stat higher than 9). To take advantage of this gift, please file a +request letting us know which of your stats you'd like to bump by one. :)
But until next year (officially, though unofficially most of us will still be around)… good luck with those finals, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and enjoy these next few weeks!
Much love,
Creation's Edge Staff
— Reply by Theodora at Tue Dec 06 14:45:03 2016 —
A clarification: For the bump it is for skills only, not attributes.
Also, idle time between mid November and mid January does not count towards idling out.

Word is being spread from Pacitta that once this year's Circuit has ended, Sir Gabriel l'Saigner will retire from actively participate in tournaments. In a letter to Circuit officials, he has stated a desire to see to his family and to his new duties, though he did mention that from time to time he might participate, depending on the circumstances though it would not be for any points.

Changes in Rivana Apr 13 2016 Local Gossip
Word spreads from Rivana that the Duchess Eleanor Greycen of Seaguard has been elected the Archduchess of Rivana. While not unexpected, there is some shocking news that comes of it: The critical vote was cast by Duke Darren Haldis of Eastfield, the Greycen's chief rival, and now it seems that the Archduchess is marrying her last unwed daughter to the Bastard Duke!
Even as letters of congratulations for the new Archduchess are drafted by royal and ducal houses throughout the Edge, this new development may leave some uneasy. Many in Couviere and the rest of the Edge have long feared (whether justifiably or not) that it was only Rivana's political divisions that have held it back from dominating the Edge, as it is well-known that they have a greater bounty of valuable resources than their northern neighbors. How this may (or may not) affect the ongoing preparations for the Grand Treaty remains to be seen, though it would certainly seem to put Rivana in a stronger position than it was.

Betrothals and Weddings Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Unsurprisingly, weddings continue across the edge at a rapid pace, particularly where young lieges or heirs are concerned. Among the ducal houses, Duke Symon Gerrell has wed the Princess Dora Callidus of Venderos. The pair is rumored to be deliriously happy with each other, but the locals of Normont do seem to be doing some grumbling about a foreign lady wedding their Duke. This is exacerbated by strong rumors that a contract is imminent to betroth Lady Rhea Gerrell, who is popular with several of the vassal houses of Normont, to Lord Osric l'Faust, the heir of Archduke Manfred l'Faust. While a prestigious match, there are rumblings that it is a transparent attempt to remove Rhea's influence from Normont (though many outside of Normont consider that a very savvy move). Even so, most of the attention in Rivana is focused on the announced betrothal of Duke Darren Haldis and Lady Katerine Greycen, a union that seeks to bury one of the Edge's longest-standing feuds and bring a sense of true unity to Rivana for the first time in over a generation. Despite the importance (or perhaps because of it), the wedding is not being rushed (albeit not completely unhurried either…strong rumors place the wedding as occurring on or near the new year), though certain aspects of the betrothal contract have already started taking effect, as Greycen river-traders and a small garrison of Seaguard troops have already started working within Whitewalls (with greater access to come once the wedding is concluded). Finally, whispers from the court indicate that Queen Alysande will soon be accepting prospective suitors for Princess Clara Tracano, albeit with the strict stipulation that whoever they may be, they will be marrying into House Tracano.
In Couviere, the rumored marriage of Osric l'Faust and Rhea Gerrell, should it come to pass, will mean that all the ducal heirs of Couviere will have been wed. This has led to considerable speculation as to the fate of the unwed l'Valdan princesses, Emmaline and Aliza, though it has been noted by many that the heir to the Principality of Venderos remains unwed, and that there are other Ducal children who remain unwed in Couviere. At the baronial level, House t'Maren and House t'Artan have solidified an alliance with the wedding of Lord Sir Jonathan t'Maren, the heir of Bloodfields, to Lady Sir Alexandra t'Artan. A great deal of jesting has already been made about the nature of their relationship, albeit in an inoffensive manner…mostly centered around how many times they seem to compete against each other on the Tourney field. A final betrothal has attracted some comment in Couviere, as Lord Jordan t'Acuto of Garfana is contracted with the Lady Yolanda Bazan of Summerseat, a pairing that has scholars across the Edge near-salivating with the possibilities of greater sharing of knowledge between the two Great Libraries.
Despite such matches theoretically being available, few lower houses seem to be seriously pursuing prospective marriage-matches across the border between Couviere and Rivana. While there has been a fair degree of inquiries moving back and forth, rapprochement has not yet yielded a large number of formal joinings outside of Lord Thaddeus Greycen and the Princess Ariane l'Valdan, and the pending betrothals between Normont and Ostvor, or Garfana and Summerseat. Those with an eye and ear for such things have noted that one difficulty is that Rivana is home to many young Houses after so many rose and fell during their Succession War, while the Couvieri tend to deeply value long-held tradition and stability, which means that many houses of Rivana are at least initially viewed as undesirable by their Couvieri counterparts due to their "youth."

Baby Boom Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Unsurprisingly in the wake of upheaval finally settling into some semblance of peace, people of all social strata across the edge have become quite invested in bringing more children into the world. On both sides of the border a potential population boom is well underway. Among all those children, the high nobility is no exception.
In Rivana, Queen Alysande and King Jaren Tracano have welcomed a healthy boy, unsurprisingly named Arturo, on Aout 5th (the child was actually a bit overdue). While a sizable celebration was held in Sunsreach proper, smaller ones popped up here and there across Rivana as the news spread of the new little Prince. Earlier still, Lord Thaddeus Greycen and wife Ariane (formerly of the Royal House of l'Valdan) produced a boy of their own, Jaren Greycen in April. More recently, it's been noted that the new Duchess of Normont, Dora Gerrell (nee Callidus) is already beginning to show signs of pregnancy, indicating that the child was conceived as early as a few months before their actual wedding. Needless to say this has not gone over terribly well with some of the more prudish houses of Normont, though the more savvy ones (and most houses outside of Normont) recognize the wisdom in producing an heir as soon as possible.
A pleasant surprise in Couviere has materialized, as Queen Louisa l'Valdan has announced that she is carrying her fourth child with King Jean-Paul, though she jested that she regretted the pregnancy would bar her from competing in the Ostvor Tourney. Lord Michael and Lady Bella l'Corren (nee Callidus) welcomed their first child, a son, in Marse, named Byron. Unsurprisingly the boy's grandparents are well-known to be doting upon him. Lady Alina and Lord Gabriel l'Saigner (nee l'Corren) have brought a third child, Arthur, into the l'Saigner household. Among the counties, the Viscountess Talia t'Corbeau has given birth to her first child, Andrew, ending concerns that the Viscountess was getting a bit old to be without an heir. Rumor holds, however, that the marriage between herself and her husband, Dominic, may have cooled considerably. One marriage that has certainly not cooled, by the look of things, is that of Great Lord Joffrey t'Synclarre and his wife Gwendolyn, as rumors from the Ostvor Tourney have marked a bit of stomach upset the Lady Gwendolyn suffered while there as signs of a new pregnancy, which would mark their second child in as many years.

Courtly Business Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Thaddeus Greycen shifted to Lord Admiral
Martyn Tracano becomes Lord Marshal, Darren Haldis becomes Knight Marshal
Clara Tracano becomes Master of Ceremonies
The Silva, a commoner house of alchemist and apothecaries, have been raised to nobility in Rivana and given the lordship of Blacksands.
Speaking of newly-raised houses, for months there have been whispers that both House Moreno and House Giraldi have been seeking to form some kind of semi-official body comprised of representatives of the various newly-raised houses of Rivana, but have been at (surprisingly cordial) loggerheads as to which of their two houses should "lead" such an initiative. The most recent rumors, however, have indicated they may have found a way past that difficulty, though it remains to be seen exactly what compromise may have been reached.

Foreign Dignitaries Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Imperial Delegation has arrived in Couviere, they made a length stop in Ostvor and stayed through the Tourney before being received in Rovilon. The leader of the delegation is one Prince Orion Doran…an indirect descendant of the legendary Gustavus Doran, the discoverer and first great explorer of Creation's Edge.
The Alhazred Delegation remains in Sunsreach, and seems to have become quite comfortable there. It is rumored that the Shahzadeh Rashad Behzadi challenged King Jaren Tracano to a friendly sparring match, and those few that bore witness declared it the most spectacular duel they'd ever borne witness to, though who exactly won said duel seems unclear.

Church Turmoil Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
News has finally leaked out of Sanctum and it seems that matters within the Church are worse than anyone feared. The Faith seems on the verge of fracturing between the ultraconservatives led by Grand Inquisitor Laurence Thatcher, and an uneasy alliance of several moderate to liberal factions. The High Priest Alphonse Bordeaux seems to be the nominal leader of the latter, but many seem to be looking towards the Archbishop Solomon Fisher of Murnord for "moral guidance." Certain key figures also seem to be distancing themselves from the struggle, most notably the Archbishop Sirrah Lancella of the Order of the Vigil, and the Archbishop Alpin Langford of Sunsreach (though it is believed that both of their sympathies lie with the moderate faction). The Templar Order seems largely paralyzed with indecision (or perhaps fracturing within much like the faith they serve), while the Paladins simply continue their good and heroic deeds, seemingly seeking to remain above the fray. Supposedly no outright violence has occurred yet, but Sanctum is certainly simmering and possibly about to boil over.
The effects of this schism are being felt in both Rivana and Couviere, though amusingly how those effects manifest seems in keeping with the character of those nations. In Couviere the Faith seems stuck in a fit of bureaucratic paralysis. They have yet to name a new Cardinal for Couviere nor a new Lord Commander for the Templars of Valetta, though for all intents and purposes many seem to be treating the Archbishop Solomon Fisher as the de-facto Cardinal of Couviere…whether he wishes it or not. Not helping matters is the fact that King Jean-Paul is clearly and deliberately putting a bit of distance between the Faith and the Crown, and morale among the clergy in Couviere has been dampened by the fact that even the extremely devout Queen Cynthia seems to support him in this. Then again…who can blame them?
In Rivana, the ruptures in the Faith are more readily apparent. Conservative factions are rapidly gaining a foothold in Normont, seemingly right under Duke Symon's nose, though this is certainly helped by the fact that several of his vassals seem to be turning towards the Church due to what they feel is a lack of moral support from their Duke. Cardinal Tarquin Gerrell continues to display his superb ability to play at a balancing act, actively and almost obsequiously soliciting the Duke while working to strengthen the Faith in the lands of the Vassal Lords of Normont, and to a lesser extent in Eastfield, where the the charitable efforts of the Church have gained them much favor among the common folk following the death and destruction wrought upon them in the Thorn Insurgency of 1865. More moderate factions of the Faith are embodied by the Archbishop Alpin Langford of Sunsreach, who has the ear of the Crown, but has been criticized among the Cardinal's College for openly supporting the Rose Queen, sometimes seemingly at the expense of the Faith. Still, the Archbishop has carefully insured that the conservatives are kept well away from Seaguard and Sunsreach, where they would be unlikely to find converts, and all-too-likely to inflame tensions with moderates and practitioners of other faiths.

Circuit Tournament Updates Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Lord Sir Gabriel l'Saigner, known as the Red Knight and the Champion of Couviere won the Ostvor tournament and a Sidhe steel gladius.
The Pacitta tournament is going to be held in November, and the prideful Councilmembers have increased the tournament prizes to compete with Ostvor's sidhe steel. (OOC: List will be posted shortly)
Murnord and Lonnaire are competing for who will host the summer tournament in 1868.
Seaguard will be hosting the Rivanan 1868 Circuit tournament as Eastfield has declined putting in for hosting due to still rebuilding after the destruction wrought by Alphard Haldis.
Pacitta will be hosting two tournaments back to back, both the Winter 1867 and the Spring 1868. The prizes for both are said to be quite good.
Several knights in Rivana are trying to recruit more of their number to participate in the Circuit, feeling outnumbered by Couveri knights.
Current top three in standings going into the final Circuit of the year: Lord Sir Raimond Giraldi with 103 points, Lord Sir Thaddeus Greycen with 88 points, and Lord Sir Jonathan t'Maren with 74 points.

Law and Order and Bounties Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Tirhold in northern Murnord has a resurgence of Ice Bears and has put up a bounty of 25 crowns per head. It is said these Ice Bears are particularly ferocious and cunning, and some are complaining 25 crowns a head is too little for the risk involved!
Rovilon, Ostvor, and Lonnaire have all doubled the usual bounty rate for known bandits and highwaymen due to increased activity on some of the secondary roads of those duchies. The only area within these duchies where there is no bandit activity is Three Rivers in Lonnaire— Viscountess t'Corbeau seems to be keeping her lands under tight surveillance.
The Privateers of Pacitta are alternating between bragging that there has been little activity from Brodlunders this season because of their vigilance and warning that surely they must be "planning something." There may be something to the warning, though, as Brodlunder raids across the Edge have been far less than usual this year. Or perhaps they are still licking their wounds from the Great Raid and the Battle of Rovilon.
Wardens of Seaguard have been far more active in the last couple of months, cracking down on crime both petty and not. It is unclear if this is due to royal guidance or if it is the new Archduchess seeking to make her mark early. What makes the matter more unusual is that the Wardens have been found operating outside of Seaguard as well, leading to talk in the Court that the Queen may be considering some kind of royal equivalent to the Wardens of Seaguard.
A group of rangers in the mountains of Normont proudly declared that they had killed the legendary bandit known as the "Ghost of the Mountain." Two weeks later a bandit claiming to be the Ghost of the Mountain led a successful raid on a caravan carrying salt from the Howlett lands and disappeared into the wilds with his bounty. Local tavernkeepers have demanded the rangers pay them for the free food and drinks they received in the intervening two weeks, leading to at least two brawls, though no fatalities were incurred.

Miscellaneous and Sundry Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
Viscount t'Rannis has begun construction of a hunting lodge in the Hartwood under an agreement with Baron t'Tremaine. Hartwood is looking forward to the travel of well-heeled guests through their lands to be entertained at the wealthy Viscount's retreat, and even more so to the coin they will hopefully spend while there.
Couviere remains without a Lord Commander for the Templar Forces stationed within their Kingdom. It is believed the current difficulties in the church have made finding a suitable candidate who is willing to take the position nigh-impossible. The fortress of Valetta has still been receiving regular resupply and repairs despite the lack of a formal commander, thanks to Viscount Francois t'Cadri successfully petitioning Duke Cesare l'Corren to allow and support it (though no one believes it took much convincing for the Duke to give his aid in that particular matter). Supposedly Great Lord Joffrey t'Synclarre of Edgebrooke has refused to accept the position of Lord Commander no less than three times, claiming the need to replenish his family and speaking his belief that his insubordination and mutiny against the former lawfully-appointed Lord Commander Richard Toulan, while justified and necessary, should not be seen as something deserving of reward.
Reports of a vicious fever spreading through the docks and workman's quarters of Pacitta have begun cropping up, though Chancellor Bartolo Mancini has assured all parties that the city's healers have matters under control and the rumors are exaggerating the severity of the situation.
Lady Alina l'Saigner and her husband Lord Sir Gabriel are hosting a masque in Lonnaire in Octobre. Preparations are already being made for it and rumors has it that there will be a plethora of fireworks and feasting.

Fashion and Style Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
While her dress designs are still in fashion, the Lady Alina l'Saigner has been considerably less prolific in introducing new designs these past several months. Understandable given her pregnancy, but in the interim several other Ladies of the Court have been attempting to fill the void as the arbiter of style within the Couvieri court, and some are meeting with a mild degree of success, especially with the Princess Aliza l'Valdan. Those "in the know" say they'd likely be much more successful if they weren't so busy trying to sabotage each other as much as actually designing new fashions.
Fashion within the Court of Rivana still seems largely dictated by the Rose Queen and the Prince of Fools, though the Princess Clara Tracano is quietly beginning to make a bit of a name for herself as well, and some of the men of the Court have started adopting more austere styles in imitation of King Jaren's often less-ostentatious attire. Which oddly enough may have inadvertently made Prince Martyn Tracano's usual dress the most fashionable it's ever been, not that he seems to notice nor care.
Hats! Elaborate hats have become all the rage among the Courtesans of Pacitta this year. Some of the designs seem to blur the line between hairstyle and hat, with hair being braided through them in elaborate fashion. At least one Courtesan has actually been seen allowing a nest with a live swallow to rest upon her head, and another is said to have had lit candles elaborately arrayed around her head. The nobles of the edge seem to find the entire phenomenon very silly, but the Pacittans seem to love it. Clearly this is what happens when you have more money than sense.
The Court of Venderos seems a bit lacking in "spark" for style and fashion with both the Princesses Bella and Dora having wed outside of the Principality, however Lucius' current wife remains a prominent figure in influencing the fashions of the court's ladies, and as ever none in Venderos is emulated more than their beloved Prince Lucius.

Syndicate Sep 02 2016 Local Gossip
OOC Note: You must be either a member of the Syndicate or have the Friends in Dark Places quirk to hear these rumors.
Bets are being taken among the Couvieri Syndicate members as to how long Count Dominic t'Corbeau will last before he suffers an "accident" at the hands of his cold-blooded and ruthless wife, though some are hedging on the idea that she might want one more child before his use to her is exhausted.
The t'Rannis Syndicate has been remarkably quiet as of late. Not that they haven't been busy, but most of their activity has been centered in Pacitta, and they have been largely devoid of the usual bickering and sniping at other Syndicate Houses (particularly the t'Corbeau) that they usually engage in. This has, of course, put the rest of the Syndicates on-edge, wondering what the cunning and blatantly ambitious t'Rannis are planning, particularly in the face of the Grand Treaty possibly cutting into their legitimate business interests.
The Abara Syndicate is impossible to get ahold of for contracts of late. Their known safehouses have been empty and quiet, and even their legitimate fronts seem reduced to a mere fraction of what they normally are. Members of other Syndicates seem equally divided between the idea that they are going to ground until the attention they've drawn from the Crown blows over, and the possibility that they may have truly overstepped themselves, and may soon be facing serious reprisals from Tracanos. No small number of Syndicatos are already speculating about a potential power vacuum in Rivana that could be taken advantage of if the latter possibility materializes, but all agree that the Abara will not be an easy group to dislodge, even for the Crown.
The Silva have recently been raised to nobility in Rivana, and supplies of alchemicals and drugs have been disrupted as they are in the process of moving the family from southern Normont to Blacksands on the western coast. Perhaps conveniently, this has also meant that House Abara finds itself facing a shortage of combat enhancers and healing alchemicals.
The t'Andalucci have benefitted from the temporary disruption by the Silva, filling the gap where some of the medical alchemicals and herbal remedies are concerned, though in keeping with their long-standing pseudo-alliance with their southern counterparts, they have stressed that such sales are "only for the duration of the transition."
The Moreno have begun reaping the rewards of their newly-raised status in earnest, with their legitimate fronts multiplying significantly over the last year as they establish trading contracts with other Houses of Rivana…particularly other houses who have been newly-raised to nobility. However, the Moreno are suffering some setbacks with the Syndicate side of their business, as it seems many of their Soldatos in Pacitta have taken ill with a severe fever….
The Marchette Syndicate, as it always does, simply maintains its strict neutrality and keeps traffic flowing through the Black Gates. However, it has been noticed that lately several of the gates the Marchettes operate have experienced temporary periods where the Marchettes were forbidding traffic through them "for safety reasons" (though as usual, in most cases they would permit travel for a large enough sum, but stress that it was "at the buyer's own risk"…any that took them up on such offer noted that their gatesickness was at least twice as severe as normal for such trips afterwards). Such temporary closures are not terribly unusual in and of themselves, but the number of such occurrences in the shorter timespan they have been experienced is anomalous.

Current Updates Oct 30 2016 Local Gossip
In Sanctum…
High Priest Alphonse Bordeaux has been heavily rumored to have been taken ill with the plague.
The Lord Captain Commander of the Templar order has also fallen ill of the plague and died within a few days of becoming ill. He was a much older man and the healers lament there was nothing they could do for such a godly and righteous man of faith.
Across Sanctum many have fallen ill, both noble and common alike. The current death toll in Sanctum is at 15%.
WORLDWIDE…
Faegates are operating even slower than normal, with as much as seven hours between gate openings. (Though on average it's an hour or so between openings… from a former downtime of 5-10 minutes).

Current Rumors Nov 09 2016 Local Gossip
In Pacitta…
High Chancellor Bartolo Mancini has still not left his office, even with the tournament underway, save for a brief appearance at the Free-For-All, where he arrived hidden behind drapery and fled almost before the event was over.
High Councillor Tarin Marchette has argued vociferously to cancel the tournament due to how badly the plague has hit Pacitta. Since the competitors have arrived, his men have supplemented the Knights of the Balanced Scale in keeping the peace in the plague-torn city.
In Sanctum…
High Priest Alphonse Bordeaux remains near-death.
The Holy Inquisition has been enforcing order within the city of Sanctum. This has contributed to the flight of some Templars, and caused many of the scions of those noble families of Sanctum to depart for their more isolated estates.
There are tales of large numbers of Templars abandoning their posts in the wake of the Lord-Captain-Commander's death. Some are returning to the Kingdoms of their birth, some are aligning with the Holy Inquisition in their attempts to enforce order, and others have folded into the forces of the noble houses of Sanctum. Already there are rumblings that there may soon be violent conflict between the Inquisition and the Sanctite nobles, who seem emboldened by the disorganization within the Church.
There has been no movement to name a replacement Lord-Captain Commander and the Templars seem torn between candidates that do not want the job and candidates that are viewed as having been too close to Cardinal Lucien Ramius's political faction within the Church, and the College of Cardinals is too disorganized to intercede.
In Venderos…
Rumors hold that the plague has not reached Venderos. Or perhaps that Venderos already has a cure for the plague that it has disseminated among its' people to protect them. This has led to darker talk still that Venderos may be responsible for the plague, somehow engineering it with Deep Alchemy in order to make a killing selling the cure to the rest of the Edge.
Despite this theory, Venderos is not selling any new alchemical products at this time, though they do still sell their usual medical alchemical products, and appear to have increased production.

Matters of the Circuit Nov 23 2016 Local Gossip
Sir Raimond Giraldi, heir to Watch Hill in Rivana, has been named the Circuit Champion of 1867.
This marks the second year in a row that a Knight of Rivana has won the Circuit, despite their numbers in the tourneys usually being fewer than the Couvieri. Of course, Circuit aficionados are already debating the multitude of what ifs as to whether Sir Raimond should really be considered the best knight of the year. Most of these scenarios hinge on the idea of certain knights competing in more tourneys (most notably the twins Sir Gabriel lSaigner and Sir Michael lCorren, or Sir Elrick tTremaine having not abstained from the Rivanan Tourney at Normont), or the plague not affecting the turnout at Pacitta, allowing for a larger (and thus higher-scoring) field. Most Pacittan fans and many Rivanans note that the Circuit deals in reality, not fanciful scenarios. Nevertheless, the debate will no doubt continue…until next years championship is decided.
Many assume Sir Raimond will retire from the full Circuit, as most champions do, leaving Sir Evelyn lFaust, Sir Jonathan tMaren, and Sir Elrick tTremaine as early favorites to claim the Circuit Championship next year, though some also mention Sir Leander Giraldi, Raimonds brother, as a possibility as well, noting that he showed marked improvement in his performance over the course of this year.
Rivanan Circuit followers are already fretting that there seems to be a short supply of strong competitors on the Rivanan side (outside of the aforementioned Leander Giraldi). Some particularly fervent fans have gone so far as to write letters to King Jaren Tracano, Duke Darren Haldis, and Lord Thaddeus Greycen beseeching them to take part in the Circuit. Given that all three have considerably more important things to worry about right now, no one is surprised that these requests seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
The Circuit officials themselves are apparently displeased with how the Pacitta tourney was handled, (or perhaps that it was held at all, given the circumstances). There are whispers that after next year, Pacitta may be stripped of its Circuit tourney.

The word from Bloodfield is that Baron Louis t'Maren and Viscount Ludovic t'Artan have come to terms for the betrothal of Lord (Sir) Jonathan t'Maren and Lady (Sir) Alexandra t'Artan. The Baron and the Viscount plan to meet in Pacitta for the tournament and to sign the contracts. Given how well Sir Jonathan did in the l'Saigner wedding melee, some wonder if he will leave Pacitta with both the champion's prize and a bride-to-be.

A Royal Knighting Nov 10 2015 Local Gossip
While much of the talk at court was about preparations of the king and queen to depart for Rivana for the wedding of the Rose Queen, one story stood out, that is the happenings surrounding the knighting of Princess, now, Princess (Sir) Antonia l'Valdan. It began with a sparring match between her and Queen Lousia, which the wags say the princess won, to the surprise of many. Then, two days later in a private ceremony in the royal chapel King Jean-Paul knighted her after which Princess Antonia was seen to wear a silver falcon pin along with her gold spurs, the same as the other knights among the Queen's ladies, the so-called Falcons.

Tourney of Love and Beauty Mar 22 2016 Local Gossip
Many in the Royal Court scoffed a bit at the idea of Hartwood hosting a Tourney, and no small few might even have mildly ridiculed the decent-but-not-extravagant prizes being offered for it. And yet, in the past few days before it begins, Hart's Home has seen a large influx of visitors from throughout Couviere, and not just those attached to the competitors. It seems word spread that Duke Cesare l'Corren had encouraged much of his family and more famed vassals to compete if they could meet the criteria, and before long, what had seemed to surely be a provincial Tourney of no real note became a veritable who's who of Couviere's most famed knights. Gabriel and Michael l'Corren (er well…l'Saigner in the former case, though many still call him by his birth name out of habit), Joffrey t'Synclarre, Elrick t'Tremaine (of course), Nadine t'Cadri, and even Duke Cesare himself has reportedly deigned to compete. Most astoundingly of all, however, is that Queen Louisa l'Valdan happily answered her father's request, and will compete in the Tourney in honor of her husband King Jean-Paul!
Suffice to say, Hart's Home has found itself packed to the brim with tourney enthusiasts, and the merchants of the town are likely to be quite happy by the end of the week. Many in the Court who scoffed are now cursing themselves for not being able to get to Hart's Home in time to watch….

The Plague Spreads Oct 23 2016 Local Gossip
In Rovilion…
The King has been placed into isolation. The city of Rovilon itself is experiencing a fair number of its population (mostly common folk for now) falling ill to the plague, though several members of court have fallen ill as well, including the young Prince Victor l'Valden, youngest son of King Jean-Paul and Queen Louisa.
Viscount Matthias t'Andalucci, Royal Physician, counsels against the use of herbal smoke in the rooms of the sick, citing that it may suffocate those who have entered into the later stages of the plague. This has not stopped many people who are using the burning herbals to cleanse the air of illness.
Healers in plague masks are a regular sight on the streets of Rovilon and in the outer cities of the duchy.
In Lonnaire…
Both the Duke and his heir have taken ill from the plague, with rumors the Duchess has just recently taken to her sickbed as well. The day-to-day business of the duchy has been taken over by Duke James's older brother, Lord Enrique l'Saigner.
Viscount Alfonso t'Rannis has called for faster and more thorough harvesting of silver willow bark from his vassals in Duon. Across the nation, there is more and more need for it as the plague spreads deeper into Couviere.
In Murnord…
Duke Cesare l'Corren and his heir Michael have been ensuring their vassals are prepared for the plague to spread to Murnord, though as of yet only scattered cases in the duchy have been noted.
Viscountess t'Resseux has send her family members with healing training throughout the duchy to be ready for when likely "hot spots" of plague will appear. She claims they are all prepared with healing herbs and have been burning herbals to keep the air clear in the healer's dens they are setting up.
Great Lord Joffrey t'Synclarre has been rumored to have placed his pregnant wife Gwendolyn in isolation until the risk of the plague has passed.
In Ostvor…
Repairwork of damage from the recent tornado has been slowed as many of the workers have begun falling ill to plague. The Archduke has begun importing herbals and alchemicals to treat and hopefully stop the plague within his borders. The heir to Ostvor has not been seen in over a week and it is rumored that he has fallen ill to the plague, though those rumors are not being confirmed nor denied by the Archduke.
Baron London t'Mollari fell ill right after returning through the faegates from Rovilon. All of Paras is in a state of panic.
Great Lord Clinton t'Bartone has recalled the Blackshafts back to Highpass.

Current Update Oct 30 2016 Local Gossip
In Rovilon…
Prince Victor, youngest son of King Jean-Paul and Queen Louisa, is dead.
The court in Rovilon is in a state of uncertainty as the three pillars of the court, King Jean-Paul, Queen Louisa, and Dowager Queen Cynthia, are all trying to run the kingdom while in varying states of isolation from both the court and each other.
The Imperial delegation has gone into isolation in their wing of the palace. It is currently unknown if any are ill, though King Jean-Paul has assured the delegation that if such a thing happens, they have a priority on healing and medication.
Garfana and the Royal Library have been closed. What little traffic is allowed in and out of the barony is heavily scruitinized.
Aphral and House t'Hone are reporting a rise in the number of ice bears near the villages and cities. Usually these animals stay away from civilization.
In Lonnaire…
More of the ducal family has taken ill, as most of the l'Saigner household has succumbed to plague. Lord Enrique has of yet not, but it is rumored he does his business in semi-isolation. As also, Lord Lucas, the youngest son of Duke James, has not fallen to the plague of yet, leaving some hope for the family.
Much of the trade with Savora has come almost to a standstill as it is rumored that most of house t'Rannis is ill with plague. This is not surprising given how tightly they deal with Pacitta, which is completely taken by the plague. All harvesting of the silver willow in the southernmost reaches of their holdings has come to a standstill as their workers take ill.
Great Lord t'Mallen of Duon warns that they might not be able to keep up with the demand of Silver Willow bark soon. They have all available hands stripping the trees in their lordship and shipping out the important ingredient to healers across the nation, but there is not an unlimited supply.
Much of the city of Lonnaire has fallen ill to the plague, and commerce and day-to-day operations are at a standstill in the capital city.
A fleet of Brodlunder ships was spotted off the shores of Lonnaire, but seeing the piles of bodies outside the city being burned, they turned and left back out to sea. They may be a problem in upcoming weeks if they choose to land and risk the plague.
In Murnord…
Hartwood has restricted traffic coming into their barony. It is not closed entirely, but guards are on every road coming in and out, refusing entry to anyone who looks like they might be sick.
Raiding parties from the Tirians have picked up as the weather chills in northern Murnord. The t'Fleur and t'Cadri has reported several villages raided, though as of yet there is not evidence of large-scale movement. Lady Sir Nadine t'Cadri, eldest child of Viscount Francois t'Cadri, has been given a command of two dozen men to scout the northern reaches…
There have been a growing number of progressively stronger groundquakes in the area of the Calmcolline in the t'Carriex lands. Calmcolline has been abandoned since the 30 Years War when Bryar Haldis and his men set the coal mines on fire as they passed through the area.
In Ostvor…
Lady Evelyn l'Faust has been seen helping tend to the sick in Ostvor, though it is rumored that her father, the Archduke, will curb her efforts sooner than later as more fall to the illness.
The barony of Paras has been closed entirely to all traffic, incoming and outgoing. It is unknown how many of the ruling family besides the baron himself have fallen ill.
All traffic through the gate to the Etharian Empire has been halted until further notice.

Current Rumors Nov 09 2016 Local Gossip
In Lonnaire…
The Duchess, Duchess Mina l'Saigner, is dead.
Duke James is still incapacitated. His heir Alina is somewhat recovered from the plague and has taken the reins of the duchy from her uncle Enrique.
Baron and Baroness t'Maren have taken ill with the plague, as has the wife of their heir, Lady Alexandra t'Maren. The heir himself, however, has travelled to Pacitta of all places to take part in the Circuit Tourney. An action that does not seem to be resting comfortably with his people, his other family members, or his neighbors.
Lord Rico t'Rannis, heir to Savora, is dead. His younger brother Noel succeeds him as heir. Viscount Alfonso tRannis is said to be recovering from his bout of the plague, and though weak, seems to be taking back control of his plague-stricken county.
In Murnord…
Despite the Barony of Hartswood having closed itself off to travellers, Sir Elrick t'Tremaine has still chosen to compete in the Tourney at Pacitta. Some both within and outside the barony grumble that the Heir is not following the standards his father demands of others, since naturally they assume Elrick will be allowed to return from the very den of the plague itself despite the travel restrictions.
The remainder of Murnord has been relatively clear of the plague. The cooler northern climes are already slowing down travel and the tendency for the Northerners to keep to themselves more so than most other Duchies seems to be keeping it from spreading rapidly. Additionally, Duke Cesare l'Corren has worked with Viscountess t'Resseaux to establish sensible policies for the isolation and treatment of plague victims, and while they have not yet had to implement them on a wide scale they are at least portraying confidence that they are ready to handle the sickness when (not if) it comes.
In Ostvor…
Lady Sir Evelyn l'Faust appears to like living dangerously, for not only has she been seen tending the sick in Ostvor, but she has also travelled to Pacitta to take part in the Circuit Tourney there. Still, her efforts in the healer's den do seem to have endeared her somewhat to the common folk, even if Archduke Manfred limited how long she was able to remain.
Speaking of the Archduke, he has taken ill, but isolated himself as soon as he felt unwell and managed a smooth transition of power to his son and heir, Sir Osric, who is rumored to have recently recovered from the plague himself. In their typically well-managed fashion most people in the Duchy have noticed no real change beyond of course dealing with the plague in general.
Groundquakes in the area of Colmcolline have increased even more in frequency and severity. Roads to the area have been blockaded for the safety of all, though with the guard forces already depleted by the Plague (or by matters concerning dealing with said plague) the usual assortment of bandits and would-be treasure hunters that brave the smoke and heat are likely still managing to get through.

Something Fishy in the Circuit Sep 18 2015 Local Gossip
The crowds and competitors are all abuzz with the possiblity that someone in the Circuit has tampered with the Joust preliminary lineups.
Many of the competitors are grumbling and wary of the upcoming duels, assuming that the continued Rivana vs Couviere theme will continue— and is being forced sloppily by the tourney runners.
Chancellor Mancini's office has been entirely silent on the issue, and the Chancellor himself has been dodging questions regarding it.

The Thirty Beers War Sep 18 2015 Local Gossip
Taphouses and taverns have been seeing a good deal of custom in the tourney and following the first day of jousting, a good deal of fighting. Sometimes it's words, sometimes its fists, and mostly it's between Rivanans and Couvieri, though Pacittans too are drawn into the chaos. As yet nobody has died, as far as one knows, few ever claim the bodies that turn up in the canals, but there have been many injuries and a good deal of acrimonious feelings between commoners of both kingdoms. The Council has put more watchmen on the street to keep order and the Order of the Balanced Scale has joined them. In all though it is hoped that everyone will simply sleep it off, but with the Melee Duels to follow, Rivanans and Couvieri alike are on their guard.

Tourney Gossip Sep 29 2015 Local Gossip
A bit of conversation in the marketplace.
"Now, that was quite a spectacle, wasn't it? The new tourney champion the twin of the last one, and even won the same type of horse!"
"Sir Michael did /very/ well, though that handsome Raimond Giraldi did win the joust for Rivana. But look at the Archery. The Arts Competition. Who would have thought that that touched Cassomir would win those?"
"Indeed. Not that I'm not glad for her. But… she does peer at people oddly, and the way she talks…"
"And her cousin. The one with the freckles that dresses in leathers all the time. Did you see her at the banquet blushing while Sir Aidric attempted to charm her?"
"Oh, yes, Sir Aidric, seems since Prince Tristan was betrothed to that mouse from a Sanctum cloister, he?s been trying to make up for his loss, bedding enough women for the both of them."
"Ugh, disgusting. Though the Cassomir girl seemed to have more sense than the others, she walked away."
"Good on her, Aidric is no Tristan after all…"

Villages Raided Oct 10 2015 Local Gossip
Three villages on the coast south of Pacitta have raided by Brodlunders. Striking by surprise and with much of the City-States forces still keeping order in the city proper, the raids were all but unopposed, the villages left burnt and the villagers dragged away in chains. The Council is in an uproar over it, with the High Admiral and the Captain General vowing more patrols and vengeance for the raid.

In Pacitta…
Most of the High Council is sick with the plague and two have died already from it (as well as several low councillors). Chancellor Bartolo Mancini has locked himself in his home and refuses to leave.
Vice-Chancellor Marcel Toulan is recovering from the plague. He is said to be awake and alert, though still weak and confined mostly to his bed.
High Councillor Tarin Marchette has been running the day-to-day needs of the city, though he is ill-pleased by it. Messengers belonging to Master Marchette have been traveling frequently back and forth between the Marchette holdings and the keep the Toulans hold, indicating that they two have been communicating frequently on the state of things since the Vice-Chancellor has awoken.
Making matters more chaotic in Pacitta, with the seizure of the Abara assets in Rivanan by the Rivanan crown, their rivals in Pacitta have been attempting to do much the same in the city-state. Unfortunately, those Abara remaining astill have fight in them, and the fighting between the Abara and other Synidcates has spilled out in into the streets frequently over the past few weeks.
With their numbers depleted due to the plague, the Knights of the Balanced Scale have not been able to contain the violence.
Tarin Marchette's oldest son, Jensen, has been seeing to the disposal of the bodies that have been piling up in the city as many die from the plague. Rumor has it that he has personally beaten three different men (one to death) who have dumped bodies in the canals. The Marchettes have been collecting the bodies on carts and taking them outside of the city to burn.
Against the advice of High Councillor Tarin Marchette, the Circuit officals in Pacitta are still planning to hold the final tournament of the year in one week's time. Despite the state of the city, the allure of the prizes is expected to draw a fair number of knights in competition for them, however, it is doubtful that the crowds will be overlarge.
The current death toll in Pacitta is around 30% of the population.

Post-Tourney Roundup Nov 23 2016 Local Gossip
The Grand Tourney at Pacitta, which closed out the Circuit of 1867, has come to a close, ending with more a whimper than any sort of grand celebration. In fact, Chancellor Mancini cancelled the awards banquet and ball. He claimed it was to avoid the guests of Pacitta having to share air and risk the spread of plague, but few are really buying it. The prizes were quietly disbursed by Circuit officials, with little fanfare or fuss.
The Circuit Championship, as well as the Pacitta Tourney, was won by Sir Raimond Giraldi, a fact which seemed to greatly please the crowd and greatly displease the Chancellor. While the late Master Armand Giraldi was no knight, many of the folk watching the competition left the tourney commenting on how much his eldest son resembles him.
(Political Lore 5+): Given that Armand Giraldi was once Bartolo Mancinis strongest competitor (and those who remember those days suggest a far better candidate) for the Chancellorship, those in the know find no surprise in Mancinis discomfort at the Giraldis win. Most of these folks correctly assume that Mancinis main motivation in cancelling the awards banquet and ball was to avoid being seen showering prizes and acclaim upon the sons of his hated rival, however long dead he may be.
Word is flying fast and furious that virtually no one at all is happy with the Tourney having been held, nor with how it was handled. Tales of outright screaming matches between Mancini and the Circuit Officials that had gathered to administer the Tourney run rampant in the streets, and while it is generally agreed that it is too late to strip Pacitta of their 1868 Tourney, given that it will be the first of the new year, there is considerable talk that Pacitta may lose their Circuit Tourney starting in 1869, with most of the talk shifting to the idea that Venderos might host two tourneys, or that it may become a floating tourney between Rivana, Couviere, and Venderos.
Largely as a result of all this, but even more so the mishandling of the Plague until it was too late to halt its spread, there is considerable talk of Mancini being stripped of the Chancellors title. While such talk is almost always present in Pacitta to one extent or another, this time feels a little more…real. However all agree that such action will hinge on who fills the vacant seats of the High Council, though it seems unlikely that Mancini has any allies left to put forward.
(Political Lore 6+, Syndicate Lore 3+, Criminal Lore 6+): Given the state of the Abara family following the sweep in Rivana that rounded up most of the familys leadership, it seems unlikely that they will be able to keep their seat on the High Council (even if its held by a proxy). This would mean THREE High Council seats may well be open soon, as opposed to just two.

"The assassin was not caught, but city guards chased him for several city blocks before he disappeared!"
"No, they caught him, and he bit out his own tongue to keep from spilling who hired him!"
"This assassination of a Rose loyalist happened only a day before the Queen's return through the Faegates!"
Rumors and snippets of rumors. If you would like to investigate this, please +mail or page Theodora.
General knowledge about Baron Robert Hogan nee Cassomir:
* Wed to Baroness Victoria Hogan
* They have three children
* He is a member of the Rose Queen's court (a courtier) and a knight
* He has been very vocally opposed to the recent raising of both House Giraldi and House Moreno (in fact, trying to cut them off from anything in court is 95% of what he's been doing this past several months)
* He was very loyal to the Rose Queen both during the Succession War and the recent Thorn Uprising

Missing Sep 29 2015 Local Gossip
A courtesan of the Rivanan Academy, Natalia Pembrooke, has gone missing.
Also, a young seamstress that has often had custom in the Tracano palace, Mari Thurdon, has gone missing.
Both have been noted as very reliable young women who were reported missing by their co-workers within the past week. Both have worked in the palace in Sunsreach since the end of the Succession War. (They are also both women rumored to have been lovers of the Prince of Fools, but really, what woman hasn't been?)

Poet/Minstrel Wanted Oct 01 2015 Local Gossip
After the musical performances from the Pacittan artistic competition, and in particular after the Rivanan contingent started to make its way homeward, there has been talk that the search is on for a talented poet and/or minstrel for a commission the young Princess Clara Tracano has a desire to offer. At present, details are sketchy, but it is almost certain admist the gossip that the Princess is looking for the best that Rivana has to offer.
Considering that the Princess is responsible for the planning and preparation of the upcoming Royal wedding of Queen Alysande Tracano to Viscount Jaren Cassomir, the most popular speculation is that Clara intends on having the musician compose and perform a piece specifically for the wedding, in front of all of Rivana. Such an opportunity would offer whoever snatches it a great deal of fame and prestige, two things that any good minstrel can convert into a most comfortable living. As such, there are quite a few suspicious that the talent search is, at best, exaggerated and far too good to be true. Yet, there is still that possibility out there…and who would be foolish enough to let that possibility just pass?

An official notice has been posted in the palace at Sunsreach. Aidric Carling is no longer welcome within its walls until the 20th of Octobre. The reason? None is given, though there are plenty of guesses. Not that Sir Aidric has made it easy with his acid tongue and eye for women there are so many offenses that he could have committed.

The empty lordly seat of Blacksand has been raided and its castle and town put to the torch. Its steward, Lord (Sir) Oliver Greycen, has been murdered, and some of its people dragged away as captives. The area has been reinforced by troops from other fiefs, but fishermen have reported seeing dragon ships further south as well, prompting fears of further raids.

Visiting Dignitaries Nov 06 2015 Local Gossip
As the wait for what is shaping up to be the grandest event for Rivana in recent memory, the buzz within Court (and outside it, for that matter) has only heightened. One of the most recent, if not one of the hottest rumours to be flying about is that Sunsreach is preparing for visitors not just from the Edge, but from beyond, as well. The most popular of these is that the Alhazred Empire is sending a delegation to witness the wedding of the Queen to her Champion. While details remain sketchy on who *exactly* will be coming, most of the information available do agree in this one thing…the Alhazredi contingent is coming and it is a big deal.
The proof of the rumours come, in part, from the actions of a certain Tracano princess. It has been no great secret that Clara Tracano has been seen in Court and inquiring about Alhazredi customs, even going so far as to obtaining an advisor in regards to all things Alhazred. In addition, there has been talk of last-minute arrangements being made to procure temporary residential space for the foreign dignitaries and, judging from the facts and half-truths running rampant, the temporary lodgings are amongst the finest that can be afforded. Some question if it is the Shahanshah herself who is coming, though others feel that it is more that the Shahanshah is sending a member of her family to act as a representative. The names of Shahzadeh Rosana Behzadi has been heard, along with her husband Rashad. But…other names have been heard…with some claiming that the number of prominent members coming range from 5 to 15…with all the servants and assistants in tow.
By and large, the talk has been mostly of interest towards the would-be visitors, with only a few grumblings among the older population who arent so quick to forget that the Alhazredi have attempted an invasion or two in the past. Though it is apparent that the Alhazredi are coming to the wedding most likely as invited guests of the Queen herself, there are murmurings of if there will be any more foreigners deigning to visit that have yet to make their intentions known.

Five Days of Music Nov 11 2015 Local Gossip
Paid for by Sir Aidric Carling, that inestimable master bard of Rivana Devin Norrick is playing the newly written lay of the Queen and her Champion over five nights at the Golden Dragon Inn.
Day 1 (Nov 10) - Daughter of the Rose - The song tells of Jaren's Selection of a Lancer and how he came to be chosen as Alysande's protector and ends with the attempt by Sir Guilliame Marwyn, Zephram Farrant and Theodric Miller to seize Alysande and Jaren defeating all three to save his charge.
Day 2 (Nov 11) - Amoung the Common People - The song tells of Jaren and Alysande's time hiding amoung the common people while sought by assassins and the men of the 'Butcher' Alphard Haldis. Both funny and dramatic as they dodge threats, and learn how to live like common people it ends ends with a harvest day dance and stolen kiss.
Day 3 (Nov 12) - Giorgio's Reboubt - Sir Jaren's famous stand. The assassins sent by the Thorn storm the walls of Giorgio's Redoubt to kill the Queen after her father has been slain, Jaren makes his stand and defeats seven assassins on his own, cementing his legend.
Day 4 (Nov 13) - The Queen and Her Champion -Tells the tale of the end of the hated Anton and Alphard, the coronation of Queen Alysande and Jaren being chosen as the Queen's Champion.
Day 5 (Nov 14) - Queen Takes Knight - After playing the whole song for those fortunate enough to attend the feast at the palace, Devin Norrick tells the final chapter of the tale. The Battle of Sunsreach, the rescue of the Queen, and then, in a final addition a lyric retelling of the day's events, the wedding of the Queen and her champion, King Jaren Tracano.
OOC Note: Those running any scenes in the Golden Dragon the next couple of nights feel free to reference these songs (or not) as you like. In general this is part of the general pre-wedding hype going on across Sunsreach.

An Interesting Move Nov 22 2015 Local Gossip
The current gossip around the palace and the court is that the sweet and charming young lady from Sanctum, Lady Elaida Toulan, has moved her things from her quarters in the palace into the suite of Prince Tristan Tracano. Though the two are supposed to wed sometime in mid 1867, it is entirely unexpected that the young girl who seems so chaste and sensible would do something so rash as to move in with her betrothed in advance of the wedding.
…is there some other news perhaps that the court isn't aware of yet?

An Unfathomable Result Apr 13 2016 Local Gossip
Chaos! Chaos in the Great Hall! Though not the violent and dangerous type so much as rampant bewilderment and wonder as the gathered noble onlookers watched hundreds of years of tradition get overturned, when Duke Symon Gerrell refused to follow the typical patterns and instead cast his vote for Duchess Eleanor Greycen. That, however, is almost an afterthought compared to what came just a few moments later, as none other than Duke Darren Haldis himself cast the deciding vote that made Eleanor Greycen Archduchess of Rivana, speaking of the need for unity and healing and setting aside decades of feuding between their two houses.
OOC NOTE: All Rivanan nobles who were in Sunsreach on Avril 13, 1867 IA may choose to have been present in the gallery when the Archducal vote occurred and bore witness to the events portrayed in the following memoir: http://creationsedgemush.wikidot.com/memoir:1867-04-13:unprecedented
Additionally, some of you may notice that your characters were actually present and/or participating in said vote. We apologize for the lack of formal notice, but we figured that running a scene that basically consisted of people waiting to stand up and say "I vote for "<person>" probably wouldn't be much more exciting than a wedding ceremony (even with the final result it had). Just make note of it, and keep in mind that for Rivanan folks (common and noble alike) this is HUGE news.

The Great Feud Ending? Apr 13 2016 Local Gossip
The Electors have scarcely left the Grand Hall of Sunsreach Palace when word is already spreading throughout Rivana that the (Arch)duchess Eleanor Greycen has agreed to betroth her daughter Lady Katerine to none other than Duke Darren Haldis of Eastfield.
Likewise, House Haldis issues a formal proclamation that House Greycen will once again be granted access to the Fortress of Whitewalls, to include preferential trading status there as well as the quartering of a limited number of troops, though overall governance of the city remains in the hands of House Giraldi.
With Duke Haldis having provided the critical vote to elect Eleanor Greycen as Archduchess, and these proclamations made, it would seem that House Haldis and House Greycen are diligently attempting to bring an end to their decades-long feud. How well the rank-and-file might take it remains to be seen, and few have any illusions that near a lifetime of animosity between the two houses will be instantly put aside, but for those outside the feud, it would seem that one long-standing wound to their kingdom's unity may finally be getting mended.

The Plague Spreads Oct 23 2016 Local Gossip
In Sunsreach…
Beloved Queen Alysande Tracano has been making rounds of the city afoot, guarded by several of the Royal Lancers, meeting with and reassuring members of the commons that they will be cared for if the plague spreads to Sunsreach and showing that she has no fear of such.
The plague has already begun spreading through the poorer quarters and among nobles recently having been in Pacitta or Lonnaire in Couviere.
Lord Adem Moreno has announced that he is working with recently ennobled house Silva to bring enough alchemicals and healing medicines to Sunsreach to stave off the plague.
In Normont…
Duchess Dora Gerrell has taken to her sickbed with chills and fever. Duke Symon has been placed in enforced isolation from his pregnant wife by the court healer, (now) Lord Alain Silva. Rumors, of course, are that Lady Rhea Gerrell has Lord Alain's ear…
The duchy as a whole has not seen any of the plague as of yet, though Symon has requested the northern seats of Whitepine in the Upper Pines and Drummond's Pass in Highwatch start harvesting silver willow right away, for the good of the nation of Rivana. Baron Teral and Great Lord Brecan have agreed (though perhaps not enthusiastically) to increase their harvesting efforts.
In Seaguard…
The ships are all stuck in port due to the large swathes of sailors, both traders and Red Sails, all becoming ill in short order. One ship, the Illustrious Illini, has been burned to the waterline just outside the docks due to all its crew being found dead on board from plague.
Viscount Giorgio Bazan has closed access to the Great Library at Summerseat until further notice.
Archduchess Eleanor Greycen has requested larger imports of silver willow and other medicinal herbs from the north in Normont and Eastfield, as none of these herbs grow in Seaguard. She has said she has been promised a large shipment soon by Duke Symon, but local supplies are already at a very low number.
In Eastfield…
Much of the duchy remains untouched by plague thus far. Duke Darren Haldis has requested that his people remain calm and gather what medicinal herbs they can to send to the already stricken Seaguard and to Sunsreach. His court healer has also called for people to remember to burn herbs in stale rooms and keep windows open that clean air from the fields can enter homes and buildings.

Current Update Oct 30 2016 Local Gossip
In Sunsreach…
Princess Clara has taken ill from the plague. The Sandoval twins have placed themselves in isolation in case they have caught it from the Princess.
Princess Elaida has been seen (wearing a plague mask) tending to both noble and commoner alike in the Healer's Den in Sunsreach. Royal Lancer Quentyn Bazan has been accompanying her on her missions of healing.
Queen Alysande reassures her people that there will be enough healing medicine to go around, and not to trust charms and such that claim to ward off the disease. This has not stopped the healthy trade in such charms in the Inner Ward and poorer quarters of Sunsreach… even many nobles have "slummed it" to go purchase such.
In Seaguard…
Archduchess Eleanor Greycen has taken to her sickbed with plague. In her illness, her heir Thaddeus Greycen is to run the duchy in her stead.
The Rosendals of Fairgarden are harvesting as many herbs as they can from their fields, as well as cutting flowers to send the sweet-smelling plants as far as they may travel to help clean the sick air.
In Eastfield…
Duke Darren Haldis has spearheaded a coalition of nobles that are moving to purchase healing herbs and remedies to distribute as needed. This coalition includes the Giraldi, the Moreno, the Greycen, and the Silva. It is said that the Tracano are funneling money towards his effort.
The county of Darkmoor and all its vassalages are closed until further notice to trade and travel. Viscountess Sibylla Marwyn is quoted to say she does not want the problems of Seaguard spilling into Eastfield, especially not Darkmoor.
In Normont…
Baron Howlett refuses to close his barony, citing that "The One will protect his people."
However, Viscount Willard Carling is more practical, closing his county (including his vassals) to travel outside of the county of Southmark via road. The faegates remain open, however he has asked that they only be used for official business and trade of "needful things" such as medicines and foodstuffs.
Duke Symon Gerrell has been seen wearing mourning black when he has been in the public eye. It is strongly rumored that his wife Dora has lost their unborn child as she continues to fight for her life from the illness.
Lady Rhea Gerrell has locked herself in the Cathedral of St. Sandoval and is refusing all food and drink save pure clean water and plain bread as she prays for her people, her duchy, and her kingdom.

Viscountess Raelyn Cassomir and her husband Count Stephen have outlawed the sale of fake or unproveable cures for the plague, punishable by banishment, fines, or both. The Huntresses and Iron Guard remain vigilantly on the lookout for offenders.
Queen Alysande has disappeared from view in recent days, leading some to fear that she may have fallen ill with the Plague. King Jaren has been seen publicly but remains tight-lipped on the Queen's status, at least with the general public.
